RUGBY WORLD CUP 2019 THREAD 19:26 - Sep 16 with 15940 viewsMrSwerve

Who's your money on then? Probably the All Blacks in all likelihood. I'm hoping that Wales have a strong showing - hopefully we will make the semis at least. Going to be tough though.

Poll: Decision day - who wins the PL title?

So assuming we top the group now, it's possibly an England but probably France quarter, and a South Africa / Ireland / Japan semi I believe? Keeping us out of the New Zealand half of the draw

And with Japan's win yesterday, if they can top the group now it most likely sets up an Ireland / New Zealand quarter, with Ireland having the upper hand against them in recent years

It's all ifs and buts and a shock result can throw it all out, but I'd say if results go as anticipated that's probably the most favourable draw you could hope to get in a major tournament

Why do they kick the ball away to the other team constantly?

Because their game is built on field position/defence/breakdown.

This Ireland team would ship 80 points against NZ. The two wins against our reserves when we were hardly trying went to their heads. They are rubbish. Samoa will get close.

Edit. World number 1 my ring piece.

Great comment from Gatland at the end "those are the games we used to lose"

It finally seems that we are shaking off the "it's ok to be gallant losers as long as we beat the Saes" attitude

But it’s shit being gutsy winners if we don’t beat the Saes?

The scrum and line out were very shaky there, as they have been in recent times. England, Ireland and other top sides would have exploited us at the set piece and kicked us out of the game, with yellow cards for props etc.

The squad looks very bare in certain positions, but great defence, taking our chances and fitness won that one.

Life is an adventure or nothing at all.

Not true. We beat England in an ultimate arm wrestle match only a few weeks ago. Both teams were giving nothing away behind the set piece, but both were testing the set piece. Ireland we would muller in a proper game, like our grand slam decider.

Edit. The point is valid though. The all blacks and the boks are a different kettle of bananas. They would destroy our set piece if we can’t improve it.

Bench made an impact though. Owen Watkin's rips, Tomos Williams somehow keeping that penalty on the field. Absolutely vital.

If only Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones were 10 years younger, we would be very special indeed.

If we win our group and get to the semi final, the game will be at 8.15 on the Sunday morning then on to swans v Cardiff at 12. Some sick days on the Monday.

Nah, refs had it in for gethin at the scrum, even if he is one of our greatest around the field, and Jones was cooked as soon as they abolished ‘the hit’. Would much rather see depth at second row (an injury to AWJ and it’s sayonaraj and in the 10-12 axis and the back three.

Ireland have beaten New Zealand twice in the last 3 years.

Once in Washington and at home as well.

66 years and counting for a Wales win.

Because their game is built on field position/defence/breakdown.

Yes but if they’re under pressure surely it’s not a good idea to keep giving the ball back to them to come at them again?

They trust in their defence and ability to force the opposition into mistakes, so long as they have field position.

Wales rarely kick to touch under Gatland, but rather look how quickly they push up in defence.

A nice 10 day rest will make a world of difference for the squad to 're energize going into the next game, think it will be england or france.

We only had six days after the Georgia match.

You could argue England or France would be better off finishing 2nd in their group to avoid the New Zealand half of the draw.

Personally I hope we get France be nice to see Australia smash England as well.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, i know we should but we have to beat fiji first.

The best thing is we have a tremendous management/coaching team who wont let todays win go to their heads and we have probably the best captain in the world, plus we have 10 days of to get over the bumps and bruises from todays brutal game, everything is going well.

I don't care too much about this world cup, since we all know who will win it, but fair play to Wales for beating us. If Australia don't make the final (we are far too inconsistent to imo), I'd love to see Wales win it.

QF ko is 8.15

SF ko is 9am. Which doesn't leave much time to get to the Liberty, if there is extra time it's very tight.

Would they open liberty at 9 to show game on screens?

The thing is both those Ireland wins against the All Blacks were in friendlies.

When the chips are down Ireland have a long history of choking. They have never gone beyond the quarter finals of a World Cup and have just 3 grand slams In their history. Gatland has led us to three grand slams in the last decade alone.
