Long shot

But does anyone on here own and rent out a campervan?

Or know where we can hire at a competitive price?

Cheers

I've been watching that celebs go camping or whatever it's called on Channel 5. Fancy having a trip in one of those vans myself.

Funny enough I was looking into this the other day as I fancy doing the NC500 up in Northern Scotland. I did a quick google search on Campervan hire Wales and quite a few companies came up.

Depending on where you are going and how long you are going for, you may be better packing your car up and hiring one nearer where you intend touring. You have a lot of freedom with a campervan, but once you have sited it it can be a pain if you want to go out for the day or the shops unless they are in walking distance. There are a couple of websites that will give you lots of tips about sites etc. The Caravan and Motorhome Club have some great sites in great locations, but they don’t have club houses - if that’s a pre requisite go for the commercial sites.

Days hire them out at competitive prices.
Only thing is their excess was £1000, which is steep.
All brand new motorhomes though and a range to suit all.

Hired one for TdF few years ago and it was OK but it's cold at night in them.

Also, not very private unless you like swinging or rattling the suspension.

If you are,Steve ,the Peugeot Boxer is a good shout.

Also ,use a campsite overnight ;rough camping is just that.

A camper van is ok if you are stopping off for the occasional night or two or are constantly moving, but as was said in the previous post they can be restrictive, If you need to go anywhere, you have to take it all with you if you want to go to the shops etc.A Caravan is a far better option for long stays, but they are expensive and you need a decent car to pull them with.

If you are under 5 foot 9 the VW Caddy. A colleague in work has done a great job converting it.

I have been nagging the wife to go on a camper van holiday but she keeps whining about toilet emptying.

If we do plan a trip we'll take our bikes along to overcome the hassle of getting around once parked up.

Go with a motorhome.
Once you get to a certain age you need your home comforts.
Also very private, warm and comfortable
Second hand, they can be a lot cheaper than a converted camper van to buy

You have the same problems of mobility with those, unless you bikes .Once they are set up you don't want to be moving those to nip to Tesco.

I was comparing a motorhome to a campervan for comfort and convenience.
Going out is the same issue in either (depending on the size of the motorhome)
I had VW Type 2 (the old type camper) for three years, two motorhomes following on from that for several years, then for the last 14 months had a VW T6 camper and have just changed to a motorhome for the reasons I stated earlier.
Camper vans are great and whilst both have their merits you cannot compare them to a fully equipped motorhome for comfort, etc

That's true, but you are talking mega bucks here. Expensive to buy, run and maintain, and useless for grassy or muddy fields as their weight get's them stuck, and a waste of a vehicle as they just sit idle on your drive when not in use

I don't know about hiring them, but I would think they aren't cheap

The same is true of many campervans (apart from expensive to run maybe).
I know many that have spent far more on a camper van than you would for a second hand motorhome.
Then quite often they pay a fortune to personalise them.
A motorhome isn't usually as practical as a campervan for everyday transport, but many like me owned them as a second vehicle so don't use them everyday.

Might as well, considering the price, take the car and spend the night in a real bed at a hotel.

There is a company named Nationwide who do deals this time of year. My mate used them and said they were good. Closest depot is Pencoed.

Days also hire out motor homes and are very good

I know what your saying and the staying in hotels is a better option for many.
However I am hoping to tour for at least three months next year.
At an average cost of say £100 per night for hotels that's
£9000 right there.
Of course there are othet costs to consider whichever option you go for

Sounds like a great trip. If you are using camping sites the costs can soon mount up, but it’s a great way to see the world.

STID.
Good for you. It's simply something we've considered but bottled it as we like comfort too much and having seen wild camping, iit aint really for us.

For the TdF ,in 2014 we paid ,I think £750 for five days with Northern Motor Homes.

Good luck anyway.

Camping is no longer the cheap option it once was, especially during the school holidays or in the high season

Definetly right there.
Works out better value for families, much more expensive for individuals or couples.
Le Shuttle even got the cheek to charge £19 each way just for my dog travelling and staying in my motorhome !
Happy to pay so my dog can travel with me, but money for old rope.
