BBC Parliament Channel 21:13 - Oct 9 with 745 viewsLohengrin

Anybody else been watching? They’ve been airing the archived coverage of the 1959 General Election all this evening. Fascinating if you’re interested in politics or history.

Sadly, Loh, Stargate Atlantis and Blacklist for me tonight.

With prorogation, daytime coverage was woeful. They covered the Jocks - my god, looks like HoC redone by Ikea, bearded muppets ( and that was just the women ) having to read off notes, stumble over words... no atmosphere or spectacle whatsoever.

The channel does that a lot when parliament isn’t sitting. I often find myself watching them. From about 1983 onwards I have memories of varying quality of watching them live at the time.

Times have changed?

Did you see this about ten minutes ago...

“We take you now to North Devon where the young Liberal Jeremy Thorpe has triumphed.”

“Hello Mr Thorpe, congratulations.”

“Thank you.”

“Tell us a little bit about yourself. You’re a bachelor, is that right?”

“Yes that’s right.”

“I hear yours was a very lively campaign, very gay.”

I almost fell off the chair! More innocent days indeed.

It wasn’t a good night for Mr Gaitskell.

Decent enough chap though.

Have a quick summary before you go to bed. See if you can pick out a young Trampie going to cast his vote.
