Who would have thought that there would be terrorism at a Ariana Grande concert teeming with young girls? Whether a few armed police would have been able to stop it is a moot point.

300 Police Officers. on 20:31 - Oct 27 by lifelong | I agree. I came to the game today via Penllegaer roundabout and the M4, there was a Police motor cyclist stopping the traffic at Penllegaer service station to let out the Cardiff coaches which had been parked there. When the coaches came out they were escorted by a further 4 motor cyclists, 4 vans and 3 cars, way over the top. |
And if they didn't and the buses got bricked... Would you be in the same group slagging them off for not doing it properly. The people involved in everyone's security yesterday did it successfully, maybe other agendas aren't happy with that?

300 Police Officers. on 20:25 - Oct 27 by exiledclaseboy | The police presence today was way OTT. |
For the next game then liaise with the south Wales coppers and bring your strategic and tactical knowledge of policing high profile football matches to bear and keep us average others informed ( after a trouble free game) you clearly have some qualified involvement that is yet to be tapped in to. How anyone can make a statement like some on here without the faintest piece of evidence of how, why where, when etc is astonishing. [Post edited 28 Oct 2019 11:18]

It’s to do with terrorists striking at soft targets where large numbers of people are present.

At championship matches though, how many of those have we had? I want a policeman to patrol my street in case there is a attack at some time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You don't really have a point. As far as I can tell you're just being a bit of an idiot.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

The point being, there has never been a terrorist attack at a football ground in this country and probably won't be.The fear of terrorism far outweighs the actual reality of it.

No, the way that terrorist threats are managed based on the hard work of people who go unrecognised in this country and the way they go about their business PREVENTS more attacks happening. That's how it works. And yes there's a real fear of terrorism and thank f u k we have people who fight it daily so you can have an opinion on here.

This thread was not posted to slag off the Police, what’s sad is the Police found it necessary to have such a huge presence for a local football match. It is 2019 and some supporters of both clubs are still living in the 1980’s, it’s time to move on from this nonsense.

I think the police deserve it where its due, they are not untouchable, but when they create a safe environment with no injuries and as good a day as possible they also deserve a shout.

I have seen armed officers at Wales Football matches and they also go to the higher profile rugby matches where there are large crowds. You are probably right about the fear outweighing the risk, but who would have thought Borough Market, the Ariana Grande concert would be targeted or that a Terrorists would have set off bombs on buses and the tube, but they did. All acs took place in densely packed places where they could maximise the number of victims. Personally, I am rather reassured and pleased to see armed officers at such locations because if some nutter turns up with intent to cause issues they can deal with him/her appropriately!

I wouldn’t go as far as to say there is no threat because they can strike anywhere at any time and it could be that a Championship game or a rugby match would be a “softer target” - where there’s a big crowd there is always a risk even though it could be a small one because that’s where they could cause the most carnage.

There hadn’t been one in France either until the 2015 attack at the Stade de France the night of the Bataclan Theatre attack. The chances of attacks in open spaces with large crowds has grown over the years and particularly with the use of vehicles. The basis of CT policing is all about preparation and prevention which results in armed police being required at any location with large crowds. The chances are low but the easiest target will be the most attractive to any terrorist. If an attack does occur I have no doubt you will be on here criticising the lack of armed police,.
