Our Midfield 23:19 - Oct 27 with 2253 views | 34dfgdf54 | I won’t say much tonight, as I’m absolute steaming. I slagged our central midfield lads off all week since the Brentford game, they run the f*cking show today and I loved every second of it. Thank you boys. Goodnight

Our Midfield on 00:36 - Oct 28 with 2106 views | TimTtam | We were clearly better in the midfield and finally controlled a game through it, but there's still the question of whether we can do it against a good team. Win against Wigan in a similar dominant manner of today, and things are looking good again.

We still gave the ball away needlessly far too much. Byers being the worst culprit. A team who weren't aimless hoofers would have exploited that more than Cardiff did. They were the perfect opposition for us. The euphoria of winning the Derby shouldn't mask the big problems we still have in the middle of the pitch.

For me Byers has been struggling for a few games now. Not sure if we have anyone to replace him with though ?

We don't really. That's been our problem since the end of August. Doesn't seem to matter who we play in there. A team who want to play football can march right through the middle of us. We desperately need to beef up our central midfield options in January. Doesn't have to be a permanent deal. A decent loan or two would do. If we can somehow still be in and around the top six when we do then promotion remains a viable target.

Our Midfield on 08:40 - Oct 28 with 1628 views | oldcob | We played the ball out quickly from the back too, so maybe that helped our mid-fielders because they were not receiving the ball when already closed down. No tippy-tappy across the front of our own penalty area either. Our reward? A clean sheet. [Post edited 28 Oct 2019 9:55]

I thought he was immense yesterday. With the ball pinging around and up in the air a lot he bossed the physical side and his duels. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That was our strongest side he put out yesterday. Why have it taken so long to pick it. Aye w mom
Our Midfield on 09:56 - Oct 28 with 1409 views | Badlands | Wingers gave the midfield space and options (as did Ayew) and Routledge was outstanding when coming into the midfield. Dyer, Routs and Ayew all became midfield players when needed. For me Grimes was again the less effective player in midfield. But overall they did the job.

That was the difference in selection yesterday, we all know we haven’t got a midfield, he picked a front three who were all capable of dropping into midfield. I know Cardiff pressed us high to make us lump clearances in the hope of winning the loose balls and didn’t really have a midfield, but when we had Ayew dropping back, Routledge and Dyer covering the fullbacks and Celina in a position where he didn’t have much defensive responsibility, we bossed it. May not work quite as well against teams who try to play through midfield, but it’s got to be more effective than Celina and Ayew in the channels and no one supporting Borja.

They all battled. It was the lack of quality when he didn't have to which worried me. He's not really kicked on since last season, although he's not alone in that.

Yep. Play the percentages IMO. That looked like a team performance that we have been missing since the first few games of the season.

Funny how you pick out Byers for giving the ball away. According to whoscored.com he was the worst culprit in the mid field at 64% pass completion. But compared to the back 4 he was a up with the best. Wilmot 41% Bidwell 56% VDH 54% Naughton 65%

Define pass completion. We certainly didn't just knock it back and fore between the defenders as much as we have done, a tendency which can "pad the stats". There were a lot of longer, riskier passes played out from the back, especially towards the end of the game when Surridge had come on as an outlet. A lot of those might have been initially headed by a Cardiff player but we got the second ball. Nicely illustrates the failing of stats. Use the numbers but never let them overrule what you see with your own eyes.

Regardless, you were and are wrong, he didn't give the ball away the most. You are just showing your bias.
