My Dad's local for 30 years. Very sad to see it had closed.

My Dad's local for 30 years. Very sad to see it had closed.

Whenever I popped in I was warmly welcomed in only a way Swansea can do.
Before I uttered a word the barmaid said "hair up or hair down?"
"Up my dear, it's for the best" I replied.

Another occasion a regular asked me "what do you do!"

"Er, drive buses" I replied.

""What route?"

"Err, all of them" I replied.

The beer used to flow and great social club feel

It was a very special place for me in memories of my dad. Sunday morning bingo £2 for a line and £5 a house epitomised the place for what it was, an old gents boozer.
Sadly it's demise came from most of the regulars dying off including my Dad, and apparently those that were left started to become abused by shopkeepers and the like stating they should not be drinking in a Muslim area.

The Transport Club in Porth in the Rhondda was also a wonderful Club, now long gone. More and more Pubs and Clubs are sadly going to close in the next few years. When I got back to my local this aft, there was a decent crowd in there, maybe 20-25 people.
I was the second youngest in there, I'm 57!

Anyone remember the "Q & R Club" (i.e. Quadrant & Ravenhill) on Oxford Street? It was run for staff of South Wales Transport.

Poll: Fox Hunting - what do you think?

I'll throw in The Columba Club Walter Road 👍🍀

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.
Poll: Celtic and Rangers should be fast tracked into the Championship ASAP

I used to go to the SWT Club, the Q&R Club, the Columba Club and the Ukrainian Club, mentioned on a different thread, with my job. My company provided fruit machines, pool tables, juke boxes etc. to pubs and clubs in the area. I’ve been lucky enough to see the good times in most of the great watering holes around, including the Cardiff Arms, the Coach House, and many other great “juke box” pubs. Met some fantastic characters over my 40 years doing the job, so many now left us but will be remembered by all that were lucky enough to be involved in the pubs and clubs at that time.
