Rugby and apartheid: 50 years on from the "BATTLE OF SWANSEA" 12:20 - Nov 15 with 1658 viewstheloneranger

"In the fight to end South Africa's brutal apartheid regime, 15 November 1969 would prove a "seismic" day."

Don't remember seeing Lemmy there...( photo no. 9 - on the right).

One well-known NB face was one of the "vigilantes" that day.

They did play the ‘All Blacks’ a couple of times though.

A Police Sergeant, stationed at Swansea Central, was stabbed in the chest during that incident.

Bluey will be along shortly to tell us it was students from Cardiff that orchestrated the protest and the Swansea students ran away when they saw the police coming

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

Swansea let the side down losing to the Springbok, I wonder how many if any of the Springbok players that day if they had played and possibly lost to Glynneath in 1964 when Glynneath toured the republic of South Africa [against the wishes of many in authority and protest groups] the Glynneath boys won most of their games out there with the South Africans changing the itinerary all the time to put the valley commando's up against tougher and tougher opposition with more and more Springboks involved [they were preparing to play the Welsh national team and hammered Wales], at the end of 1945 Glynneath beat a New Zealand representative side with 3 or 4 players in their ranks that went on to hammer the British Lions for the NZ All Blacks in 1950 yet they tasted defeat against Glynneath up in Abernant Park, I wonder if the same happened to any of those Springbok players ?

Peter Hain - the man with such high principles that he cosies up with the Provisional IRA and protects them from facing prosecution for the atrocities they caused in the UK.

Fairplay to the All Whites they did take on Glynneath during Glynneath's invincible season 61/62, credit were credits due.

It was fast and filthy that day, I wonder how many ended up on parole, lucky no one was killed by death.

They had to draft in the met police, so for them it was no sleep till (they got back ) to Hammersmith.

An NB face is traditionally somebody who looks a bit like Nicky Butt.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
