No big shock of course.

Poll: Biggest signing so far in January? (just curious what Planet Swans thinks)

We only really need one player - a top notch (or even mildly competent) CDM with a pass, a good tackle and a bit of bite.
Will transform what is already a decent side into one (almost) guaranteed top 2.

Well it should be a big shock when only five days ago the club are putting this out.

At least Cooper knows the situation and has been spun a lie. Cooper said on several occasions that we need to be creative in January, which I would think means plenty of outgoings (permanent and loans) to free up space on the wage bill. Ayew and Bastons wages were mentioned several times.
Coops did also mention we tried to bring Rhian Brewster in on loan in the summer but Liverpool said he wasn't ready.

I think most of us expected this in the summer when Birch said (paraphrased) ‘there may be some investment in January if we are challenging’. Can’t remember the exact words he used, but it was non commital enough to read between the lines.

I know not everyone agrees, but I think Cooper is doing very well with the squad he’s got.

I tool it as we'll only bring in if we sell / off load high wages.
Additional money was only going to be made available from
sales
savings
or wearing down the value of shares to create and sell more.

I don’t think he said or implied that.

We all know what the score is anyway, we haven’t got the money to spend, so we won’t be signing anyone, unless it’s very cheap.

I wouldn’t expect that to change much even if we moved Baston on.

Indeed Coops knows the score.

He came into this scenario with eyes wide open.

No money to spend.

And when we fall short again because of lack of investment he will be off to better things in the summer.

It is what it is

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

"With the January transfer window not too far around the corner, Scott’s busy putting plans in place for outcomes A, B and C. Plus D, E and F."

IMO if a player moves on we have aback up plan. I still wouldn't be surprised if we had a loan player or 2 in.

What I got from the comments he and Birch have recently made, is that there won't be signings for the sake of making signings. What that tells me is that the club will probably be on the lookout for a maximum of 2 players; possibly both on loan, and that's fine if they are good players.

It also means we won't waste 10M trying to buy our way back to the PL.

Sure pretty much all of us have been saying this for the last 3-4 windows. Is it ever going to happen?

I may be wrong here, but I'm sure I also remember Birch or the Yanks saying if we were in contention in January there would be resources available to strengthen aswell.

I think Birch said the Yanks may invest if we were up there or there abouts.
To me, it was just his guess. Obviously now it's been confirmed that he was wrong.

Yeah. Take that here and now.

One or 2 loans in low to no risk gamble on getting automatic promotion.
Or we may need a bit more depth for 2 finals in May😉

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.
