Anything to try and deflect the spotlight away from Boris' disgusting attitude towards the picture of the little boy sleeping on the hospital floor.

Certainly seems to have been some concerted disinformation around this story, probably from Conservative Party supporters, journalists such as Allison Pearson from the Telegraph were quick to push this story as fake news yesterday when it clearly wasn’t, be interesting if the little new parents had grounds to litigate. Plenty of “experts” chipping in on her twitter feed too.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/50728920

Yesterday was a bad day at the office for Boris, on top of this story, there was the fabricated story about the assault and we also had the shocking way he dealt with the reported on being asked about the pictures of the little kid.

A lot of, the above was self inflicted, had they not lied about the assault and if Boris had looked at images and promised to send a Minister to establish what had happened then it would have been resolved quickly.

I don’t think any of us knows what we’d do because we weren’t in that situation. Easy enough to pretend we’d do this and that on an Internet forum of course. Being in that position is different.

Well I've done it in Morriston hospital, wifes operation was cancelled 4 times through lack of beds, finally she was called in, but when we arrived we were told to go to the canteen as there were still no beds available.

Anyway, after waiting a good couple of hours we went back to the ward and the sister advised us to go home, I told her how long my wife had already waited to get to this stage, and said we weren't going anywhere.

They found her a bed within the hour and she had the operation within another hour..

Bed blocking at Winter has been going on for thirty years plus, no matter what government is in, the population has gone from around 50,000 to nearer 70,000, and just like the roads, the hospitals are struggling to cope.

This needs long term cross-party cooperation and just chucking more money aimlessly at it won't solve the problems Hospitals face every Winter!

You have had a bit of a mare on this thread, it certainly not a staged photo or article.

There have been big advances in medicine, but over the last 30 years the number of beds in hospitals has reduced from 299,000 to 142,000, the population has increased significantly and the number of older people (who are much more expensive to treat) as a percentage of the population is growing significantly, something has to give which is why we are seeing story’s such as the above emerging. Bed availability issues used to just be in the winter, now it’s getting to be all the time.

I agree that we need a long term solution, joined up thinking involving councils/social care and the health service.

Following the fake news of the little boy sleeping on the floor, if it was me and I was waiting for my boy to be seen at that age and size he would have been sleeping on my lap, not the floor?

Go and take a walk along the corridors in Morriston hospital and see how many broken beds and other equipment are just left there. Go there on weekends and try and find a nurse.

Anybody who thinks this is fake news is just being conned by the Tory lying machine.

This story could be about to get even more interesting.

It seems that the woman who first spread the false rumour about the photo being staged, who this morning declared her account had been hacked (which has been disproved apparently) has a son who is a friend of Matt Hancock. Imagine the chances of that...

The complexity of the problem is beyond my understanding but I would suggest looking at the figures if you care about the issue.

Since 2010, the NHS budget has decreased as a % of GDP. It's the longest ever period of sustained budget cuts. If you consider the ever-increasing and ageing population, it's mental - possibly even criminal - that austerity measures have lasted this long.

The NHS budget was "protected" but the social care budget was slashed by 11% in this same time period. Now people who can't get adequate care end up in hospital emergency departments.

The debt burden is increasing to deal with the funding issue. More outsourcing, more PFI contracts and a larger long-term debt burden. Successive governments are guilty of using this in lieu of publically funded infrastructure. It's proven to be a disaster but it's incredibly costly for the NHS to buy itself out of these contracts.

The debt burden is rising, as are the costs of treating ageing and increasing population. Most common ailments are treated with prescription medication, the cost of this medicine is rising by 5x the amount of the budget to meet demand.

Now doesn't it seem absurd to even entertain the idea of buying medicine from a supplier that is committed to increasing the price of its medicine? A partner that charges its own population 2.5x as much for the same medicine?

This isn't absurd to some.

Apologies for the delay in replying, I’ve been working nights and have only now see this.

The mechanics of the problem are well beyond my understanding too but I am familiar with the points you advance by virtue of being married to a specialist healthcare manager and having a daughter who works on an Oncology unit. Add to that a mother who was a District Nurse for forty years and one way or another I’ve lived with the NHS all my life. The state of the service has always been a theme around the dinner table.

For once I suspect this is a subject you and I find ourselves singing from the same hymn sheet.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

No I don’t think so. Having a high degree of scepticism about stories that crop up around election time has served me well over the years.

I try not to take anything emanating from the print media at face value save for the racing results.

Even though you clearly seemed to believe a false narrative of events in your earlier post?

An open minded person would surely question the source of that narrative and their motivations.

In full disagreement mode with with the Wirral Wordsmith. I won't put words in his mouth but I would hazard a guess that he saw some messed up shìt courtesy of the IRA. That's his decision, FWIW I wont be voting either of the big two, but it's pretty irrelevant in my constituency as it's a safe seat
