During a performance of the show, part of the set went up in flames. One theatregoer said, in a Welsh accent, I thought the fire was a part of the show until all the dead bodies started running off

A friend of mine plays keyboards in a lot of musicals. I sat with him in the pit at Wicked a few months ago. Brilliant fun.
I met Phil Seamen’s wife who confirmed the story about Phil’s time in a West End orchestra pit.
Phil, a heroin addict, was a bit worse for wear and nodded off during a performance. His next cue was to bang the gong. The bassist saw him nodding and gave him a gentle prod and a slightly startled Phil thought it was his cue and smashed the gong - unfortunately during a serious bit of dialogue.
The conductor gave him a “you’re fired!” look.
Phil stood up and, when the audience laughter had subsided, announced “Dinner is served!” and fûcked off to the nearest pub.
Legend. Amazing drummer too...

You don’t need to sling a Gretsch to be rock’n’roll!
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

A mate was in the London cast when it was at its peak. “Why don’t you come - I can get you in”.
Not wishing to offend, me and the missus rocked up expecting freebies and I made my way, somewhat smugly, to the box office. to collect our tickets.
“Ah, yes - that’s £84 please”. FFS...😂
My wife was telling me that apparently it's £70 a ticket EACH for The King and I at the Millennium theatre. I feel quite Miserable at the thought of that. What's more, apparently Yul Brynner's not in it.

It's brilliant. We went to the 30th anniversary show and the after party, met some not so pleasant household names. Had a great time with John Owen Jones. He sang a line "I'm agog". I went up to him and said that I didn't know he was North Walian, mentioning the song. He said nobody ever gets that. Excellent company and a top guy, no airs or graces on him.
The guy in the wings in charge of pyrotechnics had a young lad helping out. Lad asked if he could set off the pyrotechnics when Genie was due to appear. As he was a very sensible, dependable etc. lad, the guy said, ' Ok, when I tap your leg, you detonate the smoke bomb.' The show is in full flow. The pair can't hear each other clearly due to show noise. The guy says, 'Now remember, when I tap your leg'... at which point, the young lad hits the button, there's an almighty bang, smoke everywhere, no Genie (who's panicking in the wings, shouting wtf), confused audience choking on smoke... carnage.
I never let the fkn kid near the pyrotechnics again.
Back on thread, I think this would sound great at a match (just need an alternative word for 'slaves'):
Do you hear the people sing? Singing a song of angry men? It is the music of a people Who will not be slaves again When the beating of your heart Echoes the beating of the drums There is a life about to start When tomorrow comes

Really passionate, stirring song.
I always thought changing the chorus of "Red and Black" to
White, the colour of the Swans Blue, the colour of the scum
