Oi oi breaking news ………… The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is to start a new job in Greggs.
She starts training for her sales assistant role on Monday and her new career is a drive to becoming more financially independent.
A spokeswoman for the palace told WalesOnCraic:
“As announced yesterday, both Harry and Meghan have declared that they wish to step aside from becoming ‘senior royals’, and wish to explore new avenues of financial independence. We can now reveal that Meghan attended an interview at a local Greggs last week and was offered a sales assistant role (or should that be roll? Haw haw) a few days later. Harry is holding out for a position at a local KFC which means that they’ll have to drop Archie off Buckingham Palace every morning so that he’s looked after. Meghan’s first day’s training will be learning how to correctly identify steak bakes from their vegan counterparts, and similarly with the sausage rolls. Agree that some of the issues with Meghan have been race related, although I also think her not being British has been as much of an issue as her mixed heritage. Plus she’s bright. It’s a role that seems to suit those that are really not very sparky.
I hope they just get on with it. The only issue is that at present they seem to want the best of both worlds by keeping the Duchy income, security, housing and titles. That’s not really going it alone, it’s just giving up the work bit. | | | |

They shouldn’t.
But realistically, much of this won’t happen will it.
You can’t have a situation where in 10 years time, William is the King and his brother and sister-in-law are flogging crap on the TV, or selling perceived access for millions of pounds.
I’m sure she’ll be offered a fortune for saying ‘she’s worth it’ but they simply can’t allow it to happen. If they keep their titles, any commercial activity is going to be seen as having the royal stamp of approval. They will have to abdicate completely (given up rights of succession etc) before they can do what they propose.
Hopefully it’ll all be a non issue as we won’t have a Royal Family by then anyway. It’s a contradiction in terms to have a hereditary monarch as head of state of a democracy, however unpalatable the list of doubtless shockingly dreadful presidential candidates we’d get.
The cost of them is hugely understated (their website says £1 per person of taxpayer money per annum - that’s utter nonsense as just the sovereign grant is multiples of that, without income from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall taken into consideration, security costs, upkeep of royal residences etc etc). | | | |
