.........and it got me thinking as someone on here alluded to pies and the lack of a pie thread......now as a hot headed, red blooded, 90%proof alcohol blooded male the obvious answer is "furry"......(relax sisters)..….the answer could well be obscure......the pastry quality might be the answer...... anyway with that in mind I believe with the pastry of your dreams there is a winner.....STEAK &ALE......chicken and mushroom in white sauce is up there

Has to be Steak and Kidney, but finding a decent pie is becoming more difficult as the makers try to keep costs down by using cheaper cuts of meat and filling the things with gravy instead of meat. Suggestions for a decent brand /baker will be greatfully received.

Saunders pie used to be my fave...also Clark’s pies in Cardiff (gasp) are nice.

Fray Bentos family size, mash potato and tin of mushy peas. Sunday lunch. Good memories. Instant gravy on top. Had forgotten about that, was worth having the pie thread for this alone.

There is a valley called Kangaroo Valley where it is easy to eat six pies a day from cook on site premises. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All flavours. Superb.

Growing up I loved the flat pastie with mince beef. Bit of a crossover that. Not had one for years. On my list next Christmas.

Anyone remember those tiny goblin pies that came in small tins? Full of fat and suet. Tasteless too.

An old workmate of mine was on the maintenance staff at Peters Pies. Some of the stories would put you off for life. One lady was laughing so hard her false teeth fell into a vat of corned beef filling. She stuck her hand in, found the teeth, licked them clean and put them back in.

One of my old workmates would have loved Kangaroo Valley. He used to come on shift at 5:30 am and go straight to the canteen and grab a pie. He'd have another at 10:30 and on lunch he would have pie and chips. Just to finish off he'd scoff another at 3pm. He couldn't half eat I tell you!

The boys reckoned he went for an interview for a maintenance job and the boss handed him a spanner and asked him what it was for. He looked at it and ate a muller rice with it :)
