Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

I agree that the revered Mr Edwards isn't globally recognised and it will, possibly be headline news in Wales when his time comes but whatever we think of basketball is important. I lived in USA and can understand how they may feel and also that it may be a major sport in a few countries with a big audience but I guess most of us could probably reel off a handful of Basketball players.

I suppose you’re right about basketball in general.

I bet Kobe Bryant was one of the basketball players you could reel off though. He was one of those figures like Tiger Woods who transcend their sport. I’m sure there wouldn’t have been much fuss globally if a run of the mill NBA player died.

Isn't it amazing that when I made a pithy comment about an ex football manager dying (of natural causes) a little while back, I got called all sorts, yet the inmates here are seemingly positively gleeful over this tragedy.

POSTER OF THE YEAR 2013. PROUD RECIPIENT OF THE SECOND PLANET SWANS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

To categorize Basketball as an American only sport is simply wrong.

The NBA has huge global popularity and features players from many countries including many Europeans.

It's the UK that is the exception in giving it practically zero coverage.

Bryant was one of the few that transcended the sport, along with the likes of Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.

How many people in the UK know who Steph Curry is, yet globally he's probably up there with Messi and Ronaldo.

In fairness the rugby playing nations will mourn him as one of the greatest ever players in the history of the game. Leading the (non Welsh) tributes will be the English who loved him.

My heart goes out to the family of the deceased.

But everyone will suffer from bereavement at regular intervals .

A celebrity is the same as the next person when thier time is up in my book.

Condolences to everybody who has lost a loved one recently.

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

Maybe a little out of date though.

Awful tragedy all the same.

I’ve definitely heard of the other two, just not Kobe Bryant. In this social media age I find that surprising

A journalist from the Washington post has been suspended for mentioning the fact he raped someone.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
