Irish election 16:38 - Feb 10 with 3339 viewsladyjack

Great news coming from Ireland, Sinn Fein have topped the poll for first choice picks, although they might not end up with the most seats due to not fielding as many candidates as the big two parties, it's possible game changer for the future of Ireland and the UK.

Some will see it as a shot in the arm for communism and another nail in the coffin of the UK union state.

Absolutely stunning outcome for Sinn Fein. Just goes to show what a credible and well led left wing alternative can achieve with the right people at the helm.

Change the record, will you?

If it wasn't for a lefty like Mo Mowlam and advice from Corbyn there would still be trouble over there.

It grips your shit that the left achieved peace in Ireland - something your demagogues could not ever achieve.

Jeremy Corbyn was to peace in Ulster as Josef Mengele to medical science.

The claim that “the left” brokered the peace in NI made me chuckle. Major, Blair, Mowlem, Ahern. Hardly the workers’ collective. Anyone giving Corbyn any credit is clearly deluded.

The multi-nationals and the EU will tell them how it will pan out then permit them the face-saving pretence of presenting it as the result of tri-party negotiation.

I imagine they’ll want to keep their poster boy Varadkar in charge as he’s been a very good little boy for them.

Just like the last time the EU will tell them "thats the wrong result,go back think again and come back with the correct one, otherwise we will not subsidise you to the tune of billions" and like the obedient little dogs did last time the southern irish will return with the correct result.

Its funny everyone spouting off about peace and then advocating unification, when that would guarantee a return to the troubles but 10 fold and next time most of the bombs and murdering would probably be done in Dublin.

Unification will never happen in the next 50 years, guaranteed.

Hilarious, Tramp. All those ‘Red, anti-Fascists’ of Plaid stood there giving a standing ovation to an admirer of Sean Russell, an attendee at his commemoration celebrations.

That’s raising political and historical illiteracy to the level of performance art.

Yes-as someone of the centre-left I would gave Sir John Major tremendous credit here in breaking the impasse with finally delivery by the Blair government. Sadly the harder left would never credit Blair with anything, not even winning elections.

Behind all the honeyed frippery about ‘peace, reconciliation and a great coming together’ lies a somewhat grubbier reality. In essence the service performed by Major and Blair was similar to that performed by Joe Kennedy in the US as the curtain was coming down on Prohibition: that the racketeers could make just as much, more even, and without the risk to their own safety by going legit’ than running around the countryside as if every night was Halloween.

An interesting point. No doubt both nationalist and loyalist extremists have found ways to flourish. But thankfully far fewer people are getting killed at least. Knee-capings notwithstanding

On the subject about running around the countryside?

3:41s....Superstar of R.U.C/Army sighting lists i.e. the legendary (arms crossed) Slab Murphy himself. I bet he must have really struggled to stay awake during a Palestine themed conference what with the 'heavy' content and attention process being continually interrupted by thoughts about about diesel and other contraband.
