Weakest squad at Swansea 23:10 - Feb 12 with 4244 viewsswancity

For at least 10 seasons

And no that’s not the fault of the management. The club is in transition. It’s adapting to a new way of life and it’s not pretty.

Think back to our last promotion from the Championship 9 years ago. A defence consisting of four from Monk Tate Williams Taylor Rangel. All experienced good pros. Leaders. Contrast and compare.

It’s tragic. But carry on blaming Cooper if that makes you feel better...

Missing someone like Fer big time, thought about it yesterday. However, we've a really talented squad, just an idiot for a manager.

Because he thinks players can play anywhere, which is why he keeps playing them out of position.
The very reason that I joined this Forum was to talk about what my son saw when watching the U23s and below and the way that they were being treated.
This modern training philosophy that players should be able to play anywhere on the pitch to give them a rounder game was killing the natural talent of the kids joining our academy.
When a kid has speed and ball conntrol and a great cross you don't waste his talent playing in defense.
The same applies to kids who are natural forwards, know where the back of the net is and score at will.

You and up with low level Jacks of all trades and masters of none.

Plus it destroys their self confidence and respect for those training them.

There is merit in players having an understanding of what it means to play in other roles (it was an Ajax youth staple for years) but once they get to near the first team they should be specialising.

The constant chopping and changing of the team and players roles within it are one of the reasons we look so disorganized and disjointed.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Fer was a 60 minute player who would have frequent lapses of concentration and always a costly mistake in him. Won his share of headers but defensive stats (tackles, interceptions, clearances etc.) much closer to Byers than Grimes. A lot of fouls, a lot of errors, and not as many dribbles or key passes as our other midfield options. Fair to say he was out of the side on merit at the end of the season.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder as they say, and he had a lot of absences.

We're missing someone with legs, genuine box to box player.

I accept your point about Grimes, he is in fairness to him not shirking a tackle and leads the tackling stats most games, I just don't think we have the legs in there and haven't done in a long, long time.

Edit - I thought Gallagher was the ticket, but he looks shattered.

Gallagher is a fantastic player, he just has to play in his best position and for fecks sake don't let Cooper near him.

Completely agree. My post wasn't a dig at him at all. He does look tired, but the whole team looks lackluster.

Overacheived at the start but I said we would struggle with injuries and inexperience after Christmas, it was so obvious that we would fade and lacked decent experienced battle-hardened Championship players.

Coopers team would get fookin murdered !

There is no long term planning here at all nowadays, I thought they pressed the reset button with Potter coming in but the chump that's followed him seems to have stamped all over those green shoots of recovery .

I keep saying that coopers biggest problem is that Potter got basically the same squad playing far far better football, the difference is glaring, without the goals of Ayew and Borja we'd be well fooked in relegation battle right now.

It's all a mess and the worry is that the people that selected Cooper thought he was the right man for the job, it's totally clear his football style says otherwise, surely the likes of Leon Britton know this ? The Swans must play a certain brand of football for me, we are nowhere near it and it's sad to see.

Leon knows they made the wrong choice and regrets the appointment. There are many things he is not happy with, but is powerless to change due to finances.

All those players free transfers and cheap buys.
We sign a winger for £400k and Cooper won't play him and loans him out.
He don't like flair players,he's another pau l Clement

Considering we were a PL club for most of those 10 years, of course its one of the weakest.

That said, this is a still a squad full of strong individual players. In fact, its one of the strongest in the division. Its just we are not utilising that, we are wasting that talent.

Its the complete opposite of the last time we were in this division where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.

The problem in my view, and it’s obviously contentious, is Ayew.

It was the same last time he was here. Where to play him.

He gives no pace or width, so playing him outside Brewster just doesn’t work. And in matching up by doing the same with Celina on the other side, it’s compounding the problem.

If we play him, it really has to be as a ‘9’, or at a push, a ‘10’, allowing us to put pace out wide. We are being killed for being too narrow, too slow, and too congested.

I’d play him at 9, Celina at 10 and play two wingers. I’d even prefer us to swap Ayew and Brewster and put Brewster wide with a winger on the other side.

Plus our defence is shambolic.

Rubbish

Ashley Williams Monk Taylor Rangel Tate Allen Britton Dyer Sinclair Borini De Vries etc are in a different league to the current team. Only Ayew and Van Der Hoorn would get into the 2010 side.

It underlines how quickly our Club has deteriorated in terms of quality on the pitch. To be in the top half is an achievement in itself ...

The thing screams poor coaching. Beginning of the season we were defensively solid. We never conceded from set piece, hell we were actually a menace from attacking set pieces and scored from plenty - havent been able to do that since Gylfi/Bony were here. Now we suck.

Potter instilled some creativity going forward and we carried on with that this season, now there is nothing. No movement, no creative interplay, no threaded passes. All stood like statues taking forever to move the ball.Nobody getting anywhere near the striker, the wide players not beating their man inside let alone outside.

Cant string two passes together, no cross field balls. No one-twos. We dont even seem to be able to play innocuous side to side balls anymore as they just get cut out. Players have zero confidence and are scared of making mistakes. Full backs are nowhere to be seen and Naughton has arguably been our best performer this season.

Woodman is another. Clearly a good gk, but his performances are sliding week by week.

Wont even begin to talk about attacking free kicks.

We have entirely wasted this squad. If it were 10 years ago or so and Rodgers had his time again with these players we would be in a better place than that team was. The division is weak.

I just dont see how they turn it around. Given them plenty of benefit of the doubt. As for Ayew, i do agree. You can tell by the way he tries to dribble it around half the opposition. He has hardly any confidence in those around him. Hes trying too hard which is understandable.

Anyway, ill stop ranting now.

Ayew in general is a big reason why we are where we are.

£18m transfer fee 4 months before being relegated, huge wages, hardly setting the world alight on the pitch.

Probably the most costly mistake this club has ever made. Along with Bony.
