Enjoyed that, nostalgiatastic!

They could write a tune, those boys.

Great band. This programme soothed me a bit after the Swans debacle.
It's always interesting to hear how various classic songs came about. Those two producers on the mixing desk seemed to have a big hand in some of them. Loved the story about Roland strolling around and occasionally strumming two chords which he didn't know how to develop. Then the boy on the mixing desk added some drums and base, the late wife heard it, said "this is great!", and the rest is history. Everybody Wants to Rule the World. The most evocative pop song of the 80s for me.

Agree, these programmes are interesting, you often wonder how these songs originate, and what prompts song writers to pen them.
On a side note, i was in town this morning, and picked up a copy of Songs from the big chair, in HMV, which immediately went into the cars CD player, where it will remain for a good few playings. Tidy.👍

Pale Shelter a great tune, plus pop videos were never the same after the 80's

Speaking of videos they were warning everyone about the Illuminati years ago, why oh why didn't we listen?

Sowing the Seeds of Love is one of the finest pop songs ever written.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It is indeed a very fine song from a very good album, one with which I am going to be re aquainted with very soon. Can't believe it was released in 89, seems like yesterday.

It's a great tune for sure Dr_W. The trumpet part reminds me of 'Penny Lane', surely a tip of the hat?

Anyone seen Donnie Darko? There's a scene where they pan down a school corridor in slo mo accompanied by the piano opening of 'Head Over Heels' - lovely stuff. The whole soundtrack is great if you're of a certain age.

I've turned into nostalgic half cut Saturday night dad. I swore I wouldn't. How depressing.

I've just watched this before the house wakes up.
This is one of the best Classic Album programmes that I've watched. I never bought the album but I bought a 12" version of I Believe, which is great song.
What's good about this particular episode is that they explore the album from the perspective of the musicians, co-writer, engineers/producers and the music executive. I know that what they normally do on these programmes but it seemed to be so much more insightful on this one.
Worth watching from a music production perspective even if you weren't too keen on the band.

Proud to have been one of the 231

The one on Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden is a good watch.

The story about them trying to get Patrick McGoohan's permission to use audio from The Prisoner is amusing.

Used to live around the corner from RO, one Christmas he invited all the neighbours around for drinks etc I stood in awe next to him in his kitchen and could not get a word out. Twenty years later I cannot believe how useless I was and I'm still totally pi**ed off with myself.
