Unusually for me I watched the BBC News at Six and was struck by the political commentary alongside news articles, so I watched ITV News at 10 and found pretty objective and well balanced reporting.

More inclined to use ITV in future if I bother to watch the news.

Yes the BBC is a Tory mouthpiece that promotes far right wing ideology as normal.

Feck the stupid Royal family updates, nobody cares any more.

Brexit enablers to a man/woman, except Huw.

Come on Itv 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇪🇺, except Pierced Organ - he needs the boot.

I found that the political commentary distracted from the actual reporting of what was going on in that it prompted me to think about what I was being told rather than the actual story. There were times when the BBC appeared to favour both the government and the opposition but in inaccurate ways.

Here's an example, the BBC questioned the rough sleeping figures saying that 20,000+ are rough sleeping not 4,000 and saying that the figures were under reported. The 20,000+ is anyone sleeping out for one night or more in a 12 month period, the 4,000 figure is taken on one particular night in the year, it is quite possible that both figures are the same data set. It's poor reporting because it distracts from a really important issue.

We end up with a debate about the numbers rather than what progress in being made.

Great post.

Question is ..... is it incompetence ? Or is it deliberate ?

Neither is acceptable of course, but the later is sinister.

This sort of thing just happens too regularly to be chance....?

All I can say there is a significant difference in the reporting style with a lot more opinion in the BBC approach which does prompt the questions you ask.

That’s right, Sherp. If it’s the truth unvarnished you’re after then a media organisation umbilically tethered to the advertising revenue of multi-national corporations is the only safe harbour to head for...

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

I see them as completely the opposite, attacking public services on behalf of whatever govt is in power. They are also led by press briefings from the govt of the day. Context.

OK I've changed it.

I'd sooner put my old chap in my Morphy Richards food processor than watch either.
