Apart from the anti-viral remdesivir the others have been around for many years and are taken by millions of people all over the world every year.
So "dangerous medicines" they are not, they have very well known side affects that have to be taken note of, but that is what doctors do when treating patients. |

Been around a while for HIV-I have seen the older model in use in Africa. It's a relatively stripped down qPCR test-a fair degree less accurate at about 98% than the current machines, but cheaper and more robust. Crucially does not need RNA isolation first. That said they are pretty expensive per test. Still it gives a decent level of rapid detection. We just need serology up and running too. | | | |

Actually it is quite a bit like the 1918 flu, if you think about it.
In 1918 millions had just come out of 5 years of dreadful war and were emotionally and physically worn out.
They had no modern medicines, not testing, no ICU units, no antibiotics, no anti-virals, not even penicillin.
Very little oxygen, very few face masks or other protective gear.
Few hospitals, nurses & doctors.
ie you would be looking at the herd immunity version of COVID19 today without any or very little intervention. | | | |

So compare that to model they have gone with 20,000 deaths, but as Ferguson says that doesn’t mean 480,000 will be saved, as many of those 480,000 will die whether they get the virus or not. | | | |
