Oh the things we take for granted/ things we under value 21:31 - Mar 26 with 1814 viewsdickythorpe

My fridge packed in earlier.
Rushed down to Tesco Carmarthen in these times, like a maze getting in of course with social distancing.
Customer services informed me they don't sell any.
Meanwhile the missus on Currys/Amazon , plenty to choose from but no delivery until Monday and had a ridiculous delivery cost with Currys.
Rang council told me to put a shout out on social media.

I rang Wayne Evans electric appliance shop in Mansel St, he answered at this time!!! He took measurements over the phonr and will do his best to source one tomorrow again in these times.

8pm came. Clapped outside my house for the magnificent NHS.

Just happened to say my fridge had packed in to my neighbour who's moved in recently......."have my spare one " she said
The missus and I could have been knocked down by a feather!!!

Bugger big business after this is over ,it's the COMMUNITY that gets you through and helps plus goes that extra mile for you.

Amazing story, not only new neighbours but friends for life now!

Trust me, when this is all over you will have a different opinion on most of the people you work/socialise with and some relatives.

Some will absolutely disgust you, most will step up to the mark and beyond...

Wayne Evans is a really good guy, excellent service and you won’t get ripped off.

Bought a few things from Wayne (and Dai Powell when he ran the business before retiring) and they have always been excellent; service has been first class and the prices competitive.
Places like Curry’s have a slight advantage in terms of price, but the differences aren’t huge and you normally have to wait for delivery, pay for installation with the big guys and then for someone to take the old one away. From my experience, guys like Wayne are competitive, deliver, install and take the old one away all in.

Had a dishwasher breakdown a while ago, went to Jones Nantgaredig (Wayne doesn’t do much with dishie’s) and they were also very good.

I’d have loaned you my beer fridge.

Ron Jones and Powell it was for years, then it was just Dai Powell. Wayne took over and it's been as excellent as it ever was.
We bought a washing machine off him 11 years ago which gave up on us a fortnight ago.
We bought a new one off him straight away and he didn't charge delivery or to take old one away and he fitted it for free.
Currys want £20 to take any item away. Plus delivery prices range from £17.50 to £42.50!!!!!

Overly neighbourly gesture.
I just hope they aren't sex people, nothing worse than stirring the neighbours porridge when it's still warm.

OK I've changed it.

It's a serious concern, I can't think of a worse scenario than being pinned down by a badly installed fallen white goods and being anally invaded with a crisp fresh cucumber from the very fridge they leant me. The thought of being inserted in the clacker with other freshly kept items because 'one good turn deserves another' is horrendous.

OK I've changed it.

Our washing machine went South last week, we had a new one from Curry's which was delivered 2 days later but there wasn't a delivery charge. They did charge for installation and for recycling. We paid for recycling because we weren't sure if the rag and bone would be around but the Van driver said they had no room for our machine and left it telling us to phone customer services. ......never got through, massive waste of time and then there was a knock on the door, the R&B man asking if he could have our old washer.

I complained by email but haven't had an answer. Lesson learned though.

Our neighbours though, they all offered to do our washing if we were stuck, we have great neighbours.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Mega reality check for the fun and credit generation. Gig economy ? The way forward? Underfunded Health Service over many years and no link up with social services. “Bed blocking” Bastards like Branson now whingeing for a bail out. Things have to change.

It really is amazing how, in adversity, we come together and the survival instinct kicks in , I’ve had such amazing chats with my neighbours and their kids over the past few days, hopefully, we will ALL learn a lesson as to not taking ANYTHING for granted ever again !!

Good Luck All 👍 STAY AT HOME ......it’s not hard to understand.

Well Wayne delivered the fridge today, true to his word.

I shan't be using Curry's or Amazon anymore for domestic appliances.

We really need to support local businesses.

Plus my neighbour has 2 little kids and they think it's hilarious seeing me walk the fridge back.

Also did a little food shop for my neighbour as way of thanks.

Good grief, Bryn. You can’t drink cold ale, mun!

Proper beer has to be room temperature.
