So much for cheering the NHS 14:24 - Apr 7 with 4990 viewsLohengrin

You’ve all seen the parade of parliamentary charlatans wearing their NHS lapel pins, you’ll have all seen the rainbows in front windows, heard or taken part in the applause. Behind the showy facade staff were told this morning that their Bank Holiday pay rates have been cut.

Nothing quite like the thanks of a grateful nation, is there?

Is it being done on an individual health trust basis, Jim?

I don't see how this would be possible to be honest Loh, it would breach the terms and conditions of their employment contract.

I'm sure it would be all across the media also.

Who told you that this was the case?

From employees of the Swansea Bay Health Trust, formerly the old Bro Morgannwg.

They are also desperately short of PPE, and that’s a dire situation to be in now.

The PPE situation was improving but, of all things, scrubs were running low, yesterday. My wife hasn't mentioned anything about the pay rate over Easter but, after Thursday, she isn't back in till next Tuesday.

If you haven’t been told anything then it must be down to the individual trusts, Jim.

Here's one Loh ...

"Correction: An earlier version of this story indicated extra pay for weekend and bank holiday work would be suspended. United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust later clarified that pay would be administered as normal during these days. This story has been amended accordingly."

With all the support the NHS is getting, it would be a massive own goal if this had been carried out.

Let's hope it was a lost in communication and not a reverse decision.

It would really beggar belief if anyone had thought to make that decision.

Swansea Bay were asking for volunteers for the Bank Holidays, my wife hasn't been told of a pay cut but she's salaried and they don't pay overtime, they allegedly get time back.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I'm pretty sure that although they don't get overtime but time back, they do get enhanced rate for weekends and Bank Holidays if worked.

The treatment of nurses is an absolute disgrace and these professionals have seen their pay and conditions go backwards over many years as they were told they had to take the burden of austerity.

My wife is a front line NHS professional and I have given her PPE from my own business (engineering and construction) as they have run out in the hospital or are having to reuse disposable PPE.

It's an absolute disgrace PJ.

Every public service has taken a kicking re wage freezes from these tory w@nkers but the NHS and especially the nurses have been hit hardest.

I doff my cap to all who serve in the NHS.
