Facebook Portal on 23:04 - Apr 25 with 1645 views | BrynCartwright | It's a gadget you stick on top of your telly that lets you do video calls in high definition n shite. They also do these tablet devices offering the same connectivity but on much smaller screens. Now HJ...if you ask again "what is it?" I dare you.

The amount of information they can scrape up with these devices is unreal. Intentional or otherwise, it happens. Its effectively in house surveilance. Its bad enough having a smart phone in your house.

True, there are always bad actors out there who will try the webcam and mic thing for their own ends, but thats a bit old hat. I was more on about Corporates (probably Governments too) lifting your personal data and creating a stageringly detailed profile on you and your families. Google, FB, Amazon etc are data companies, they arent internet, social media, technology or retail. The big bucks and the power is in the data. Companies pay for it. It can be used in a scary amount of ways and they will know more about many people than the people do themselves. Best thing is that people will happily hand it over for free in exchange for a bit of "cool" modern tech. Google and Amazon already have access to private medical records in a number of countries and are involved in Military tenders and projects. Regulators cant even keep up with Financial services, let alone cutting edge tech. Start joining up all these hugely detailed data sets and it becomes some serious leverage and control. As an example, those "security doorbells" which some people have which alerts the homeowner to somebody at their door or on their property via video to their phone. The company holds all that data, they back it up. Doesnt take a genius to figure out how many people live there, what their daily routine is. When they are likely to be there, whether its male, female, young old etc, or when they are out. Thats just a basic doorbell. Knowledge is power. I know its all a bit tinfoil hat but nobody seems bothered that they are quickly becoming a mark.
