That would mean forward planning , you must understand the vaccines only been in the pipeline for , how many months is it now ?

Forward planning? And lack of ability to do so?

The Welsh Government is p1ss poor doing that type of thing, that is why a Swansea/SW Wales regional head/oncology professor resigned in protest, out of sheer desperation at zero 'forward planning' by Cardiff Government to get vitally required equipment into Singleton Hospital.

The backward thinking yokels (both Labour and most in opposition) in the bay displayed the same attitude and urgency towards 'forward planning' as they do all things that don't happen to involve ploughing sh1t loads of money into Cardiff infrastructure/building projects.

Do you not realise there are many thousands probably millions sitting in a freezer elsewhere as well. Any cases Wales get England gets 18 times. 250000x18 is roughly 4.5 million. England hasnt vaccinated them either. There is a reason for both as Gething explained in the press conference today. They are monthly amounts and we work through them throughout the month as do other parts of the UK. Just part of you and others attempts to discredit Drakeford. The fact is your effort to do so and not accept what happens elsewhere just shows what your agenda is. Now slag of Johnson and Hancock, Sturgeon and Foster for doing the same thing and also look into facts properly instead of spending all your time attacking Drakeford

Bojo and Hancock are utterly useless, not fit for purpose and complete gash, yet still England is doing better than Wales.

If that means Drakeford is better then I'm the cure!

Don't forget Gething he has kept 150,000 does in reserve so he could give a second dose to the 49,000 who have had the first dose. Not sure what the other 100,000 was for.

It doesn't really matter how much the other areas have in storage they are vaccinating at maximum pace.

We aren't obviously, if we were and hadn't used our quota it wouldn't be a problem. Scotland and Northern Ireland are comfortably out performing us and that is down to the incompetence of Drakeford and Gething.

The relevant, irrefutable facts are:-
Most deaths.
Most infections.
Least vaccinations..

As i have said on numerous who is having more infections. Who are panicking over the hospitals being full. Who sent patients from Kent to Bristol and Plymouth and just to give you a clue it wasnt Drakeford or Gething.

We are about to see the virus numbers increase because of the stupid Christmas rules. Luckily for us we were in lockdown before which will hopefully limit the effect. Drakeford had the courage to do that. Others didnt.

As far as vaccinations are concerned the difference is 2 days. As you said 200,000 a day. 230000 against 190000. 400000 divided by 200000 is 2 days. All countries have large stocks as they are meant to be a months supply.

England has the new variant in far, far greater numbers than us. That's the sixth time.

We may be 2 days behind England, they have 50 million people to our 3 million. We are about 4/5 days behind Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This isn't a Wales v Westminster competition, although we'd come second in that. This is about how badly the WG perform.

I tell you what, if you can disprove these facts you may have a point. But since the pandemic began :-
Most infections
Most deaths
Least vaccinations.

Again more nonsense. Worse leader. Well look at the facts.

Who was it that decided he knew better than the scientists.
Who removed the 2 metre rule in England increasing the virus
Who decided to bring in the air bridges system which increased the virus at a time it was declining.
Who brought in the scheme to encourage people to eat out causing the virus to spread.
Which idiot decided to bring in fans at sorting events again causing the virus to soar.
Who did nothing when his chief adviser travelled hundreds of miles during lockdown.
Who decided to allow professional sport to restart. We are now seeing matches cancelled because of this. How many footballers or rugby players are now catching the virus. 3 the Swans first team squad alone have caught it as well as members of the Ospreys.
Who failed to act decisively in the first instance.
Who failed to act before Christmas which has led to the problems England is now having.
Who in September as the virus was increasing suggested people should go back to work causing the virus to spread as people went on public transport.

These are only part of the problem. Gove, Hancock and Whitty had to convice him to close schools because he didnt want a week ago.

If you think Drakeford is the worst leader I dont and neither do the vast majority of the Welsh public as evidenced by polls.

Your anti Drakeford bias is pathetic and drives everything you say. Even when he acts sensibly like stay local rules you object. A rule that was largely responsible for bringing the virus under control which actually reduced the virus to 5 and 8 cases in a day in Wales and which was made far more difficult by your fellow Tory friend hell bent on opening everything up when it should have been obvious this would spread the virus.

The new variant might add to the problem just ask how the South African version got here. It was brought here due to Johnson's policy of allowing people to come here. It isnt the reason things have spread in England. They have spread because the government didnt take action early enough. This variant has been in the UK since September.

Not a single point I raise is nonsense. It is the official stats not may illogical interpretation of them.

You do realise that every single one of those questions could have been handled differently by Drakeford if he chose too? The vast majority haven't, the situations he has handled differently have been made worse.

They are all completely moot points when we have more infections, more deaths and fewer vaccinations.

Wales Online made a point of saying yesterday that spring starts on March 20th, and that Gething said over 50's would by vaccinated by the spring.

As much as that would be great I cannot see that happening. I would take my hat of to them if they managed it. They'd have to vaccinate almost everyone aged between 50 and 70 in four weeks. Easter may be a decent shout though, which would give them an extra 2 weeks.

Edit:-
This is what it says.

By the spring (which starts on March 20)— vaccination will have been offered to all the other phase one priority groups. This is everyone over 50 and everyone who is at-risk because they have an underlying health condition. This is 924,900 people.

If they manage that, we should have a good summer!

As far your last paragraph I would say probably equally. The devolved administrations have handled this far better than the UK government. I have respect for Sturgeon and Foster and to be honest I have some respect for Hancock. As for the others I have no respect.

As for Kirsty Williams she is light years ahead of Williamson and indeed her predecessors in Welsh Government. Just look at her decisive action in cancelling exams in Wales and the shambles that has gone on in the UK government. Look at how all schools were able to return for 3 weeks from June which didnt happen elsewhere. She hoped for 4 but the intransigence of unions put a stop to that. They rather had their numbers going on holidays abroad and bringing the virus back instead.

The lockdown didn't happen because Drakeford was brave, there were big shouts from everywhere to stop the Christmas bubble. A yougov poll said 58% thought the bubble a bad idea and it should be stopped, A small minority wanted it to go ahead. Drakeford dithered but finally had to give in to common sense when the numbers were skyrocketing. Besides which, the Christmas lockdown happened in Wales AND England at the same time.

Williamson is useless, but Kirsty Williams certainly isn't light years ahead. In fact she is no better whatsoever, she is in government to make the numbers up.

Her decisive action in cancelling exams followed Scotland. Schools didn't return for 3 weeks, pupils occasionally attended for "keeping in touch days" that were utterly pointless but allowed WG to claim they had opened schools.

As for indecision - why do Uni students still think they are heading back to face to face lectures in Wales? Why are our schools closed until at least January 29th and not until after February half term? If anything stinks of indecision it is those policies.

The lockdown didnt happen at the same time. In large parts of England it wasnt brought in until way after Christmas. Was Drakeford right to go with the Christmas arrangements. NO. Was he right to allow people from 4 households to sit together on the same table. DEFINITELY NOT. Has he made mistakes. YES. Has he made as many as Johnson. NO WAY WHATSOEVER.

There are you and Scotia and others who dont like the Welsh Government or whose despise Darkeford for his politics.

Purely on whether he has made less errors than Johnson there isnt any doubt. Johnson said everything would be back to normal by Christmas. Was it.

Johnson's wish to open everything instead of recognise the only way to attack the virus was to bear down on it has been a major factor in why we are where we are now. Similar to his mate in the US.

New Zealand have this week lifted coronavirus restrictions because of the way they acted. We should have been learning lessons but Johnson and some on here think they know better as they do as against the Scientific and Medical adviserd throughout the UK.

The lockdown in the areas of most prevalence and similar prevalence to Wales happened at the same time, of course England had the new variant too. It was only later that areas of considerably lower prevalence were brought in.

I don't really have a problem with the institution of WG, Drakefords politics and I don't despise the man. I just think at least 80% of members of the Senedd are utterly inept - I include Drakeford in that. It's not WG it's the people in it that are the problem, if they are the best we've got then I'd rather they weren't there at all.

Johnson is useless too, and one of his biggest failings is making empty promises.

It's not Johnson's wish to open everything, it HAD to happen. We cannot stay in full lockdown for over a year. No way, no chance, could never happen, forget it,. This may have been an option for you personally but not the vast majority of society. Luckily we have a vaccine being rolled out, otherwise it would have to happen before too long again. When we do open up (Early May I think) it will still be a risk.

Every Western democracy in the world opened up and have gone a similar way - it is inevitable. Probably the only two that have been in a better situation are NZ and Australia and that is because of geography and not politics.

Johnson didnt have to try and open everything. He could have just opened things that werent going to cause an increase. Non essential shops being an example. I dont believe Drakeford was right in closing them and I would reopen them.

The evidence clearly shows that has been a reduction in the Welsh figures from 22 December. That would relate to what happened 2-3 weeks earlier so we are talking from around 1 December. During the period from then until 20 December shopping centres and shops generally were crammed with Christmas shoppers yet the figures went down. When non essential shops opened back in the summer the figures didnt rise. This just shows that non essential shops and things like Cafes which were opened were not the reason for the huge increase throughout most of December.

What we should be looking at is what changed to cause the rise. The reality is the 2 things that changed were pubs were closed and students went home and later schools closed. We know from the figures that students account for approximately 5% of the cases in Swansea. What else happened around 3 December and for that reason I wouldnt have reopened pubs. The difficulty is that no pub landlord would know if you and I went into his pub whether we were living in the same household. That is even more so in younger people as many live in HMOs. The huge problem is that people from different households sit together and that is what will cause spread.

A family going out for a meal wont cause a problem provided they sit together and are 2 metres away from anyone else. It is clear that isnt happening in many places as evidenced by establishments being closed for not following the rules and indeed by comments that you yourself have made on here several times. This is leading to the spread as well as people visiting each others homes.

The opening of border and use of Air Bridges was stupid. It was the catalyst in the increase in cases fro September. This isnt just about a new variant. This has been rising since then.

Here are the figures showing this
12 August 8 cases
26 August 34 cases an increase of 400%
9 September 165 cases a further 400% increase
23 September 389 cases a further 250% increase
7 October 753 cases a 200% increase
21 October 962 cases a 150% increase
4 November 1202 casa a 150 % increase

This went on until the firebreak lockdown then receded then increased. This is exactly what has happened in England as well. The cases there rose until the lockdown then dropped then rose again afterwards. This will continue on an upwards journey until the lockdown takes effect and the figures will be higher there than Wales for several weeks.

Johnson could have locked down earlier and had the firebreak earlier but chose not to do so and the effect of not doing so is what is currently being seen in England. It isnt just the new virus.

As far as when we do open up I suspect it will be earlier than May but we need to open up things that dont cause the virus to rise and include things like non essential shops and individual outdoor sports in that. Things like Golf or river fishing wont cause a problem. Something like football, rugby or boat fishing will. The next 3 weeks things will remain closed because the situation regarding the stupid decision over Christmas relaxation is not yet known but will be this week.

If they are right and the first 4 groups are vaccinated by mid Feb I suspect things might open. The NHS will be getting over its peak winter pressures and those at high risk of dying will also have protection so will hugely reduce deaths. They would continue vaccinating those at lower risk over the coming months.

I think this will be the last lockdown and we will not come out of it quickly, I'm expecting it to last until March.

The whole premise of this thread is strange.

The British government has underperformed in many areas over the years - should Westminster be scrapped?
