The EU stopped the worst excesses of an extreme right wing government.
They also stopped (or actually that’s not even true - made a lot more difficult) the worst excesses of an extreme left wing government. Hence the lexit argument. But the political makeup of this country meant the former was always far more likely.

It didn't help much when Thornberry was on QT and said Labour would get a better Brexit deal then she clearly said she would campaign against it, and she wasn't alone, Starmer sid he'd campaign to remain too.
It had many people scratching their heads and not believing Labour could get a better deal because their hearts were in remain. Corbyn didn't want to take a position one way or the other besides offering another referendum. He's still got splinters from that fence sitting.
From my point of view, as someone who distrusts the majority of politicians whatever their party, we were damned whoever we voted for. A didvided Labour party with a useless leader or a useless Tory party with a selfish, egotistical, narcissistic, proven liar as leader. Both of them backed up by political detritus.
And then Warwick called me names for saying I would spoli my ballot because none of them were worth voting for!

No it was foisted on him at conference by Sir Keir in a deviation from his printed speech. Sir Keir is an ardent remainder as are his shadow cabinet.

Actually I was just quoting from my previous post as you did not seem to pick those issues up. If you want the state school bit cut out, ask Sir Keir to stop keep repeating it. Even though he travelled 10 miles to attended a partially autonomous school. Which (based on his age) after his second year became fully private, giving him all the advantages of a private education. But presumably still funded by the state.
I find it interesting that he stresses the strong socialist nature of his family. Yet they chose to send their child to a semi autonomous Grammar school, soon to become independent. When socialist policy was depriving the majority of ordinary children the opportunity of even a state Grammar school education.
