Unfortunately a righteous cause these days can easily be turned into something else by the unscrupulous.
A thinking person surely sees past that, or at least tries to, to the reality.
A black person in America can justifiably be fearful of the people whose job it is to protect them. A succession of cases has demonstrated that to be a completely valid concern. They can also be fearful that the full might of the law will not be brought to bear on those who have committed such atrocities. We watched a man murdered by the police for spending a fake 20. Three of the four involved have not even been arrested. Since people have taken to using Dr King, it’s useful to remember his comment that ‘riots are the language of the unheard’. That certainly resonates with me when I watch the events unfold.
As is always the case, protests are highjacked by the unscrupulous, the criminal, the amoral. On both sides (there is undoubtedly an element of far right infiltration to make the situation worse). It’s inflamed by the most morally bankrupt president that has, surely, existed. For his own political ends. To distract from his woeful response to the virus and to advance his chances of re-election.
