97, new cases found in a meat packing plant in Merthyr. What is it with these firms?

Wales reported today 26 cases.

UK reported 689. Both include pillar 1 and pillar 2 (I think Wales does anyway).

When I have compared Hammersmith with Swansea both are only pillar 1 (neither England nor Wales splits by local authority).

Wales extrapolated to the UK should result in 572. So is less than England (using your logic is strip out Leicester, but that’s part of England, so I won’t).

The Wales online article is disingenuous as the numbers it compares are consistent. Unless you believe that the ratio of infected to hospitalised is different between countries, which it may be, but I’d it was it’s unlikely to be in England’s favour,

That doesnt appear to be the case. If you open the 2nd link I gave you and look on daily charts then you will see Testing locations and it shows Hospital and Other. the drop down near the top shows local Health Board from which yo can choose the various Health boards. As an example Cwm Taf shows no hospital cases today and 8 others which appear to be the Pillar 2 figures. You can use this for any Health Board. Clicking on other actually gives a graph tracking the Pillar 2 in that area. Using the Local authorities button tells you the amount in each authority and adds up to the 26 cases declared today being 8 In Merthyr Tydfil and 5 in Wrexham. Conwy and Cardiff had 3 each and Carmarthen had 2. Caerphilly, Newport, Angelsey, Gwynedd and Powys had 1 each making up the 26 cases. All the other local authorities didnt have any.

The first link actually shows the amount per Health Board. This allows you to hover on the date to get a daily amount by sample date and clicking on Swansea Health Board and hovering shows how few cases there have been here. You can alo hover on the map if you require the amount for each area.

It certainly looks like Pillar 2 is included in the daily figure for each authority. The hospital figure is the Pillar 1 amount and the other being Pillar 2.

The truth regarding the figures has now been revealed. Over to you Scotia

Not a problem.

The article is misleading in this context. The PHW website each day shows pillar 1 cases split between local authorities and pillar 2 on a different tab - Wales only "declare" the pillar 1 in their daily update. Yesterday we declared 26 cases and the local authority tab adds up to 26.

I'm not sure what England do but both pillar 1 and 2 cases are falling. Scotland who I think are a more appropriate comparison to Wales openly report both pillar 1 and 2 and have done for about a month.

Edit. I just checked on PHW the 26 is NHS labs only out of 1313 tests (The summary tab states NHS Labs only in yellow letters). P2 is separate and the count is 21. I suppose it is possible Wales then breaks them down to local authorities when plotting on the map, and adds them together for the UK total. But that isn't what the daily Wales totals show which is what we have been concerned with.
The daily announced total for Scotland has included P! and P2 since June 15th.

It seems Lisa's area is beginning to have problems despite what has been said

Parts of Kent, London, north Wales and Scotland are still battling significant Covid-19 outbreaks, sparking fears from scientists and public health directors that Leicester’s return to lockdown is set to be repeated.

Bars and restaurants are preparing to reopen on Saturday in what the prime minister, Boris Johnson, has dubbed “independence day”.

But infections have risen in the Medway, the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham and Ealing in London and Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, according to publicly available figures relating to tests by NHS and Public Health England laboratories.

They are all areas which have seen an increase of 10 or more weekly infections between 18 and 25 June.

You also dont mention the Pillar 2 cases are dropping here too. The actual chart based on sample date shows there were 22 new cases on 22 June and 12 yesterday. The day before which might be more accurate shows 26 against 14 and this is with the cases in the chicken plants.

The numbers involved in Hammersmith are so low that a few cases looks like a spike. It’s back to what we were talking about with the R number.

Foe a few days, infections went up (they’d been just 1 or 0 a day for a while). On 1 day there were 9 pillar 1 cases, which skewed it. Pillar 1 of course is hospital and NHS testing. It may have been a little cluster within the NHS for some reason (we have a couple of large hospitals in H&F including. Charing Cross). The last few days it’s been down again (nil on 28th, 1 on 29th).

You’re also going to see little clusters in an area because of the track and trace regime. If someone tests positive and they test contacts (say in an NHS or care setting) people that would never had shown symptoms and been in numbers before will now show up as positives.

England is bound to get small spikes and outbreaks as most things are open now. It’s been the same everywhere in Europe.

It’s just a matter of making sure that they don’t come to anything. And if they look like they are, locking down for a week or so.

The trade off is keeping everything closed until everyone has lost their job. Pensioners with public sector pensions may not care too much, but young people will as that will cause them far more harm than a few days with a cold which is what the vast majority of young people get.

They are planning locking down your area together with a further 35. For a few cases it doesnt seem necessary but it does indicate the folly of opening up too early and it being done for political purposes. Every area will get the odd spike as we have seen in Wales. That is way our stay local rule has been right.

Hammersmith & Fulham (Labour btw) have issued a statement saying that the data is not correct (as have Ealing) and asking for it to be corrected. They have said that there is no spike at present. Hopefully it will stay that way.

All this (the list of 36) comes from the Express.

It now appears it’s wrong. Certainly in some instances.

You may want to rethink your tone btw - the note of glee - ‘your area’ - is somewhat offensive.

And on a practical note, it won’t be possible to lockdown individual boroughs in London. If London gets locked down they will have to lock down the whole in order for it to have effect.
They may have to do that at some point. Let’s hope not for the sake of the UK economy and the millions who will lose their jobs. You won’t of course - zero sum game for you.

Edited to add - Wandsworth (conservative council) have now also issued a statement saying the figures for them are wrong. Looks like the Express (on which all media have based their latest sensationalist headlines) have pulled together a list which is incorrect.

A localised cluster on scottish borders. Wonder who will blame who? Scottish residents illegally shopping in England or English residents visiting Scotland?

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

Have you brilliantly identified a major issue for our friends in England and in Scotland ?

Or .... does this simply apply to every land border in the entire world ?

Yep - thought so, nothing here to see .... !
