So after the police said one of the accused made an offer of cash for the case to be dropped it was initially turned down and reported as an offence by them, but now the charge of bribery is dropped and hes free to return home. Or did the officers who originally make the claims imagine they were offered something and it was all a mistake. Seems like he got off lightly with just having to apologise to the officers they allegedly attacked and try to bribe, and if they did not attack them why are they apologising? Very strange.

Actually there is going to be a retrial not an appeal. Under greek law the conviction has been erased and he is presumed innocent until the retrial. Just makes you wonder about the Greek justice system. Original trial took only a day or so to sort out no time for a proper defence to be mounted and the retrial could take up to 2 years to be heard.
