There are many styles of forward, IMO Borja was a player who needed to run the channels, at the time we did not have a player who could play a pass this way. Understand your point but good players make things happen don’t they. And within a team framework you try to play to strengths of your influential players where possible

Mr Leadbetter was head of recruitment and kept a very low profile. Remember the sucessess too. Sigurdson, Llorente, McBurnie, Ayew J, james, Fabianski, Grimes Fernandez, Mawson, Bony 1st, Ayew 1st even Gomis was decent. Relegation struggles turns decent players into percieved poor ones like Ayew J, Mesa and Clucas. Borja on the other hand did not impress anywhere post 2016. He is now only 28 a free agent and nobody has signed him. A spell on the Costa del Sol on £2000 a week will do fine. league 2. [Post edited 24 Aug 2020 13:53]

Same as Manchester City did when they bought Bony oiff us. Why buy a strong player, good in the air if you never cross the ball in?
I don't count Mesa as a bad signing, not in the same league as Clucas anyway. I thought Mesa was the right man at the wrong time, with all that was going on then. Mesa is/was a good CDM and a good passer too. Ngog was a much worse signing, a player who never lived up to any potential. | |
