The evidence from France is that hospitalisation comes about 3 weeks after the rise in infections. We are a little way off that yet. The difference is that this is happening mainly amongst the young whereas the original cases covered 50+. However this will spread to older people who are less able to cope. The numbers of deaths increase hugely the older you are.

Covid19 infection rates are on the up as are excess deaths are certainly on the up during August and it’s got to be a cause for concern
For the week ending 7th of August, the 5 year seasonal average was higher than the number of deaths reported in 2020, but after that it’s a different story.
