Dr Drakeford and his cronies have really set the bar high on the incompetence stakes on this one.
They have announced tonight that retailers will only be allowed to sell “essential goods” during the 17 day lockdown but they are unable to say what counts as essential or non essential. At the time of writing this there is just over 18 hours to go until these rules come into force. The predictable result is that the entire population of Wales will rush out in the short time that is left and ravage the shelves of anything and everything that could potentially count as non essential. Meanwhile retailers are completely in the dark with just a few hours to go they are blissfully unaware of what they will or won’t be allowed to sell or whether they’ll be allowed to stay open at all.
Absolute idiocy from dippy Drakeford and this cabal of insidiously irrational imbeciles.

No, the blame lies with panicky politicians who decided to lock healthy young people in their homes for most of the summer then acted surprised when rates rose as those lockdowns are eased in early autumn.
The people getting infected en mass now could have been picking it up in more manageable dribs and drabs over the summer when respiratory viral transmission is harder. Instead of a steady trickle we've now got a flood.
The lockdown we had previously has been over for months. Infections we are getting now are recently picked up.
It coincides with students going back to uni.Who knows where they have been socialising with or where.
Healthy young ppl spread it just the same as anyone else, except they don't usually get as sick

It also coincides with people going back to work, people going on holidays, people moving about more generally. To lay the blame on one demographic is not fair.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
I've read today that Off licences are allowed to stay open, is that right?
How is an off licence an essential business?
I actually have been to Tesco, for our weekly shop. I usually go on a Saturday morning but chose to go a day early in the hope of avoiding queues. There are some things you just can't get in smaller "local" shops and there's always a large queue at our local chemists these days. I spoke to a staff member, she said it had been busy since 6am and it was growing steadily busier. Then she said, at 6pm of course, the stuff over there (clothes, electricals and more) won't be on sale. Drakeford still hasn't clearly stated what is "non essential" so I expect arguments to break out. They have put all the pressure on shop staff.
I'm watching Drakeford on tv now, he's telling us how serious it is and why we have to act now. Well if they knew this back when they first asked Bojo to forbid travel, if they could see the cases rising that quickly, why didn't they act? Why ask Bojo a second time? And then why announce it and then wait 4 more days. It needed urgent action not foot dragging and excuses.
Edit, Drakers says the "essential items only" rule is a matter of fairness, that just because a sector is bigger and more powerful they can do what they want, we are all in it together here in Wales. In which case, to be fair, tell us what isn't essential. Tell us if alcohol is eesential...I don't think it is. Tell me why, if I need something I can't buy in a Welsh shop it's being fair to our businesses to be able to go online and buy it from Amazon at an inflated price? Also then, why is it fair to me that I have to spend more?
All borders should have been closed. Planes grounded for a year. Uni work done online this year. Social distancing kept at all times. But no people want a suntan. People want to go on the lash. Just keep this virus coming is it. Cos until people behave it’s here to stay.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Agreed, unless or until we have a reliable vaccine anyway.

It was always going to be here to stay unless you completely close our borders for good. The problem is the timeline of when other countries around the world saw the real spread start. Those countries with a later start time will re-infect those where the 1st wave had passed. It was always a case of slow the spread as much as possible to handle the severe cases. There is still no advice from any of our governments about boosting our natural immunity, it is a disgrace, it should be a national campaign.

Hold up, it was always going to be here....but you said we'd nearly got rid?
Isn't it true that people with stronger immune systems had bigger problems too? The Cytokine storm wasn't it?

The pubs in Cardiff and Swansea have been full of revellers making the most of it before the lockdown. Would they have been middle aged people, or maybe pensioners, or would they have been young ppl?
They just don't give a shit.

The second point, it was thought this was an issue with the so called Spanish flu. It was speculated if this could also prove to be the case in relation to COVID (certainly on here).
But think the low effects of those who would generally be expected to have stronger immune systems and much greater effect on those that would generally have weaker immune systems (like the elderly) would not support this.

We seem to have a whole generation of young bloods that expect the world to be a place where they can do what they want and if thing go wrong, blame someone else. No self discipline and no respect especially for older people which they see as irrelevant.
Few other nations see pubs as "important" ,important enough to be a national issue.
My generation are responsible for this and we should be ashamed.

Fair point, but it would be entirely unfair to blame all young people or even a majority of them, same for uni students. Like blaming all football fans for violence.
Many many young people are as or more thoughtful about care, balance and personal responsibility as / than many older people are.

Under four hours to go and still no clarification as to which items are classified as essential or non essential.
You can but all the no essential items you want at Amazon etc putting their workers and delivery drivers at risk and they will probably help to spread the virus but you can't buy them at the same times as you buying your food. Drakeford is attracting widespread scorn from the whole of Wales and the UK. Could be a good thing though with Welsh Assembly elections next year.

Why on earth are garden centres closed. The benefits of gardening during last lockdown were enormous for mental well being. Does anyone amongst Drakeford's muppets not listen to the science!
Because its a non essential journey to get there
You ain't supposed to go out unless for food or medicine
Its not hard
