The government is about to announce the creation of free ports in the UK. With 7 in England and 1 each in Wales , NI and Scotland.

Any ideas on where the Welsh Assembly will locate the Welsh one?

I wonder if Bristol will, get one of the Englsh allocations.

If the speculation in the media is right about the future of Tata steel in Port Talbot being in jeopardy ( I really hope they have it wrong) I’d give it Port Talbot, it’s a huge area, it can handle some big ships and they could early develop it.

Actually making Port Talbot a free port is probably the best idea. If the area included the steel works and the port it would reduce the cost of making steel. The current deep water harbour could also be adapted to make several berths for container ships there is also plenty of land to develop around the port and steel works with access to both the M4 and the railway network.

This could be a great opportunity for Welsh economy just wonder if Drakeford could grasp the opportunity.
