| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 09:55 - Mar 5 by onehunglow | and for many not only no pay rises but a loss of business and earnings completely. It's an unfair world for us all. It s not fair people like Paul McCarthy,Bono,Elton John can pop on to our screens extolling the virtues of the NH when their combined wealth could fund God knows how many hospitals. We have footballers, like our favourite son Gareth Bale almost £100,000 per day, ever day, every week. And they want more. And we watch them. And we support them. And we Love them. Not fair is it when a footballer can earn as much in a DAY as a 3 nurses or a Consultant. I said its an unfair world |

Does it not turn your stomach, seriously,to see artists worth 700 MILLION plus and still selling their publishing rights to make more in the 80s . Then, have the brass neck to APPEAL to us to donate. We've seen some hypocrisy of late on here but these musical legends are the masters of it all. Macca could sell his back catalogue and hand over the royalties and fund a whole hospital

Vaughan Gething said in the briefing today, we won't be following England's lead. And will be awarding in excess of 1% once the recommendations are announced. Not often do I agree with the Welsh government, but in this instance, they have it spot on.

12 1/2 % increase I think not. I think certain people in the NHS have performed above and beyond and deserve all the accolades for a fantastic performance. But lets put this into perspective, they do get pay increases as they work through the bands eg average ICU pay is over 50K. The private sector will be decimated with people losing more than a pay rise, to put in perspective how much do you think the lab Techs who work on vaccines earn? This rose tinted view of our NHS in Wales is pathetic, we have had hospitals in special measures for eons and waiting lists getting longer and dont even mention OAP nursing home care and the minimim wage carers looking after them.

If you mean in research, for technical staff between £20-50K for a graduate, £33K minimum for a post-doctoral scientist (with a PhD). Tenured staff at University Lecturer or equivalent £40-60K, non-clinical Professors £60-120K (Most 60-80), Clinical Professor (£100-150K).

No Prof, i meant the lab techs in say AZ or J&J and Glaxo who average about 30K if they are lucky with O/T. I was trying to highlight the apalling difference in pay between sectors especially the care home workers.

The AZ vaccine R and D was university-based. Only the ramp up to production was private sector. Those in industry get a lot more job security. I was in my forties when I got a ‘permanent’ contract. It’s not well paid in either at lower levels. Senior industry jobs pay well but you need a good track record to get those. The bane of academia are the fixed term contracts

| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 09:12 - Mar 5 by onehunglow | So now this becomes a rightie thread. Utterly predicable. Everyone wants more British Gas engineers refusing a pay rise offered Get those chips off the shoulders FFS My sister in law is a nurse in the sixties,a single parent, her own nice home in Devon .She's doing just fine but always complains about the waste ,the over management and the whole concept of performance related tables. Introduced by a labour government . No surprise the communist Fire Brigade frothing at the mouth. There is no hope for this country with attitudes shown in this thread. The Price you Pay |
During the 1977 detachments from my regiment were drafted in to assist in fire fighting duties , we ended up in Manchester , escorting the 40 odd green goddess's brought in to help . The irony was we were receiving considerably less pay than the striking fireman before they went on strike . So much fuss was made by our CO in public that the media dubbed him Colonel Fury , it worked because we were then awarded a 30% increase ( that's how much we'd fallen behind other public sector workers ) note Labour only partially awarded the increase, it was Thatcher's administration who provided the full amount .

Yep.Remember that well. Thatcher ,to my annoyance ,took the credit for the big rise on police salaries .Edmund Davies had already been passed but not implemented . Maggie then became the heroine for most police officers ,apart from me that is,but I would not have joined at pre Davies rates. Many Constables had to take second jobs to make ends meet and that s after a night shift.Night shifts to Fire crews are beds unless the Bell goes . Every fireman I knew had a second job, bricked, plumber, decorator and tiling seemed popular

Should be a general strike until the nurses get taken seriously. Johnson needs to be brought to his knees over this. He will probably offer 3% tomorrow as that was always the plan, say, just to show he cares. 🤮 Shirley nobody actually agrees with 1 % .... 🤷â€â™‚ï¸

Of course he said that, it'll make him popular. So, out of the money the WG lot receive from Westminster, where do you think this "in excess of 1%" will come from? My thinking is Council tax raises, police cuts...who knows? Or, perhaps Guessing Gethin has found another tree...
