8 February 2010 David Cameron will introduce measures to curb the lobbying industry to ensure that attempts by business to seek influence on Government policy does not become the next big political scandal.
His attack on “crony capitalism” came in a speech in which he attempted to tackle Britain’s “broken politics.”
He said: “Now we all know that expenses has dominated politics for the last year. But if anyone thinks that cleaning up politics means dealing with this alone and then forgetting about it, they are wrong. Because there is another big issue that we can no longer ignore.
“It is the next big scandal waiting to happen. It’s an issue that crosses party lines and has tainted our politics for too long, an issue that exposes the far-too-cosy relationship between politics, government, business and money.”
And now
This is BoJos chance to nail his arch enemy but he will cover it up as it will damage his Conservative government too much

I think you missed his point? That being that this tory government are even worse than Venezuela's corrupt lefty government!
Though Bojo hasn't yet turned the troops out to keep us UK plebs quiet! In fact I would say Blair has more in commonwith Maduro than Bojo.
Wel he would miss the point, he’s thick as an elephants turd. This is the Tories master stroke - convincing the brainless to look the other way while they lavish taxpayers money on themselves.

You are very quick to have a go at any Labour MP who is seen to have crossed the line and when another tory embarrasses themselves your defence is to use the Labour MP,s.
Cameron should be deeply ashamed of himself considering what he set out to do.
He is not a tory mp he has not been since 2016 and after a two year period he is allowed to get a job much like Blair and the other milliband.

Hancock has clearly done nothing wrong and abided by the rules.
Personally I would change the rules so that a situation where the UK health Secretary is allowed to hold shares in a company that is seeking to acquire contracts with the NHS both in England and Wales is not allowable. He apparently has no say in the awarding of such contracts but it muddies the waters to say the least.
Everyone's pension funds has shares in all the FTSE 100 companies.

Everyone's pension funds has shares in all the FTSE 100 companies.
There’s a huge difference between that and the Health Secretary holding personal shares in a company (more than 15% in this case) seeking to acquire NHS contracts or, say, the Defence Secretary holding personal shares in a company seeking to acquire defence contracts.
That isn’t against the rules but in my opinion it should be.

I agree with you. By the current rules Hancock has done little wrong but to most of us this is a clear conflict of interests.
I wonder if his sister has ever name dropped her brother to try and influence a decision?
This lobbying stuff (back on OP) is it true that the tories tried to tighten the rules but Labour voted against it? I saw Bojo claim it on the news earlier but, well it's Bojo and it's hard to take it at face value!
David Cameron made about $10m (£7m) from Greensill Capital before the finance company collapsed, documents obtained by BBC Panorama suggest.
The documents indicate the former prime minister received $4.5m after cashing in Greensill shares in 2019.
Greensill, which made its money by lending to businesses, went into administration in March, leaving investors facing billions in losses.
Mr Cameron's spokesman said his remuneration was a private matter.
Greensill collapsed after its insurer refused to renew cover for the loans it was making.
Before its collapse, Mr Cameron unsuccessfully tried to persuade ministers to invest taxpayers' money in Greensill loans.

Think you will most politicians earn far more after they retire from Parliament. Blair, Milliband, mandolin, Kinnock, Osborne to name a few.
Yes but that's the problem not a reason to ignore what's going on. Uk politics is corrupt and broken and it needs to be sorted out.
Cameron made an approach but he must have known how bad Greensils position was. He tried to get public money to bail out the firm so he could collect on his promised pay day, 4.5 million was it?
Right now, because Greensil managed to get onto the government scheme, the tax payer could be liable for 320 million quid. Once again the rich people will get their debts settled by the people while the people continue to see their public services cut, the poverty stricken will continue to go without.
Cameron got around 10 million for a part time job, he got that gig because he was PM. He'll still get his political pension. Something has to be done. The system is run by the people who benefit by it and they continue to twist things for their benefit. They continue to lie and deceive. Until the rules are stricter and the law is changed to make sure of no personal interference for personal gain or gain by a political ally (current or ex) this will continue.

Good post. Had Cameron got the funding, we could be looking at even bigger loses to the tax payer.

Cameron should pay that money back into the public purse.

It's more than that, he should be facing a legal investigation. The people in government he spoke to should be facing investigation.
An ex PM made a personal phone call on behalf of his employers to get a "favour" and it should be a crime. It's corruption pure and simple. It turned out Greensil had been paying itself to cover up a loanees financial problems, that's surely fraud?
Of course any incriminating evidence has long since vanished. This political "old boys" network is nothing different to the Cosa Nostra, it's nothing but a protection racket, they protect their friends and colleagues and we pick up the bills while they get rich.

There’s an article on the BBC site about Cameron promoting Greensill to wealthy Credit Suisse customers. I hope our government don’t bail out the mega wealthy, the tax payer is already looking at a loss of £300m.

What churned my stomach was the bit about Cameron having done nothing wrong, that is why the rules are wrong because this whole thing is very wrong.
Credit Suisse must have been strung along too (possibly during the June 2019 meeting Cameron attended) because they were selling Greensil as low risk. Now Billions have been lost and after Cameron'ss representations, it could cost the Uk 320 million.
