I had a small shop early and the Labour governments of Callaghan and Heath were as bad as each other.
It does feed hate though as the hatred is passed down through families until they become apocryphal.
Even our Fire Brigades (as called at the time) withdrew their labour and picketed whilst army personnel went to fires in Green Goddesses protected by Police,who then were seen as Strike breakers by firemen and why the relationship between Fire and Police was "cool" for many years.
Police condition have gone down the toilet ever since.

The ‘long, slow crumbling’ began much earlier than that, if you want to pinpoint a beginning I’d offer up the 24th August 1931 and the fall of the second Labour government following Philip Snowden’s abject failure at The Exchequer. I must precede this to say I've never voted for the Tories but that's not to say I disagree with some of their ideals , the UK has been in decline both socially and as an economic force since the first world war , with small short term revivals in between , and with it standards have dropped to a point now where a simple courtesy as a saying thank you is treated with shock, The Tories and Thatcher tried to stop the rot with 'Solving the trade union problem " which they thought would be the key to Britain's economic recovery after the winter of discontent etc , this they did but it's proven not to be enough. IMO The decline in our economy has affected how we interact socially and with it our basic instincts in how we care for each other | |
