I'm the same, I used to love the champions league games on a Weds night on ITV. Since its gone to Sky/BT I cant remember when I last watched a game other than the final - and only then if an English team was involved.

The UK isn’t really the issue for those clubs now. A lot of the market, I’m guessing, is the USA and Asia, where football is still a comparative novelty, they all support global teams and the prospect of Man Utd v Real Madrid every week is mouthwatering.
USA especially, as the lack of promotion/relegation won’t be an issue to them.
As far as I’m concerned, they didn’t pull out due to underestimating fan feeling as much as the negative publicity it got.
