Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Where have I said I think the whole world should just shut down and ban travel between countries. What I’ve said is that I think cautioning against all but essential travel is a sensible approach - our vaccination programme is well ahead of most countries and as they catch up we should be extending the destinations accordingly. Scientists identified the links last year and the impact of the Indian variant which is causing problems for a much younger element of society could have been reduced if Boris had prevent travel between the 2 countries earlier.

I agree with you re vaccination.

He did stop tavel once the scientific evidence proved that the Delta was a variant of concern. The scientists may identify a new variant but that is only the first stage of the process. They have to then provide evidence that it is worse or more infectious than other variants.

It's just the way he is, you can't really knock him for that. Some interesting replies to the tweet though.

Boris stopped travel from the Bangladesh and Pakistan when they had far lower rates of infection than India, he was motivated by the trade agreement. With regards to Pakistan their primary variant was the “Kent” strain which they’d had from here.

Interestingly, the most recent bulletin from PHE has identified approximately 40 cases involving a new variant in the South East and London area and that previous infection and vaccination may be less effective in preventing infection with this new strain, the majority of the cases are linked to oversees travel.

Just as well England gave Wales 4,500,000 doses of vaccine in its hour of need.

All part of being a United Kingdom as Wales did not have its own vaccine procurement scheme.

There was a joint home nations vaccination committee and they jointly agreed on quotas etc. This has been explained to you many times, but it still hasn't sunk in yet.

Correct that part of the NHS has not been devolved to Wales etc.
The supply of drugs including ordering, purchasing, buying and distribution vaccines is run by NHS UK and it was UK government policy to leave the EU body that oversees approval of vaccines and to order vaccines on behalf of the UK.

Another benefit of being part of the UK. One of the world's most successful vaccination programmes. Do give credit where credit is due.

For the very last time. there was a joint committee set up to deal with vaccinations, quotas and buying. It's irrelevant who actually placed the order, it would probably have been some senior civil servant.

It's not that I haven't given credit, it's just that all the eggs have been put in the vaccination basket. Many other countries that haven't vaccinated as much as we have a re doing far better with new cases and deaths than we have. All the major European countries have done better than us, Italy being the exception, but it started there first and caught them unawares.

We have higher death rates than these European countries. France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Austria,Switzerland, Serbia,Greece, Denmark, Norway. Outside of Europe , higher than the USA, Russia, Mexico, India, turkey , the list goes on and on.

We may have vaccinated more, but we have done worse than those countries

Yes vaccinations can’t bring 135,000 dead people back.

Sadly these European countries have a higher death rate than the UK

Hungary
Bosnia
Bulgaria
Slovakia
Belgium
Italy
Slovenia
Poland.

No one actually knows the death rate in India as most people who have dien of the virtual have never been tested.

Russia figures are estimated to be 4 times high than Putins "official " figures

You don't need to be tested, Doctors can diagnose Covid, plus x rays, scans etc.

Bereaved relatives of coronavirus victims in Wales are demanding a Wales only inquiry into the Welsh government's handling of the pandemic in Wales.

The Welsh government response
"A UK wide inquiry was best for understanding the experience of people in Wales "

What has Drakeford and Co got to hide the NHS is devolved in Wales but he wants to leave it to the UK to decide if Wales handled the pandemic well.

I don't think any of the governments have handled this well. I also think it should be a UK wide enquiry focussing on the National effort with sub sections/Appendix for devolved governments / regional areas/variations in England if such a thing exists. No need for duplication etc.

In terms of hiding things, Boris has pushed the national PE back to 2023. Given the adverse comments re the way he’s handled the pandemic you could argue what’s he got to hide? Boris would/should have had far more information available than Drakers, Sturgeon Foster as the National Government have consulates etc in China, WG don’t!

I have every sympathy for the families who’ve lost loved ones, for people who've been ill and everyone who’s suffered through the pandemic. No stone should be left unturned and the enquiry should be completely transparent. Not sure that will be the case, there’s lots of concerns about the Grenfell PE re terms of reference etc.

If Boris had taken this seriously and locked down a week or two earlier it would have saved thousands of live. Instead he wanted herd immunity until it became obvious that too many ppl would die that way

Not me , and yes it was , the most sensible option , why have 4 separate health boards all vying for the same product, I don't agree with a devolved health service , even more so after watching "ours" being run ragged pre covid
