Yes ….. well, if you ignore the Russian athletes that is …. Russian Olympic Committee ROC stands for Russian Olympic Committee, a delegation of Russian athletes who are competing in the Olympics even though their country is under a two-year ban due to doping violations. The ROC has to abide by several different rules set by the International Olympic Committee so they remain "neutral" athletes.

GB are above the ROC in the medal table did you not notice. As ROC is not a country anyway but a delegation of Russians athletes GB is the top European Country anyway.

Russia as a country has been banned from the Olympics for doping violations should be a clue to even the most dim witted man from Kilkenny. Still fourth in medal table shows what a team from an United Kingdom can do. [Post edited 5 Aug 2021 2:53]

Wales is not a member of the Olympic organisation. It is a bit like saying Hampshire would be top of the table as it has won 8 medals so far with half the population of Wales San Marino, Bernda and New Zealand are of course members of the Olympic organisation. [Post edited 5 Aug 2021 8:46]

Wales unfortunately is not a country recognised by the United nations or the Olympic organisation. You can call a cat a dog but it is still a cat. Glad to see Welsh athletes playing their part in team GB 🇬🇧

Why are EU super countries so far behind in medal tables? Germany, France Italy Spain trailing so far behind.

No just you say the EU is such a utopia you would think they would do much better with their superior facilities and wonderful climate allied to their huge economic success and growth.

Because they don’t offer the same level of financial support to their athletes/competitors that we do. Our Olympic sports receive funding from UK Sport and in the build up to this year’s Olympics that figure was £345m which enabled the proper structures to be put in place, professional coaches appointed and the athletes could train full time. In Atlanta in 1996 we only had 15 medals in total only 1 of which was a Gold. Edit, I am all for giving athletes the opportunity to train and excel as hopefully they will become role models (as opposed to these influencer to55ers) for the younger generation, encourage participation in sport etc. It also gives people a sense of pride in their country and shows what can be achieved.
