I don’t get so emotionally invested in such irrelevancies to hate such a trivial thing. So can’t recall how I feel when it happens.

Indifferent I guess.

That’s the beast showing fangs, employing the full coercive/terror stratagem of the police state.

What people on here are actually advocating when they employ the term’Socialism’ is a rosy mixture of wishful thinking and Methodist Sunday School teaching.

Oh I'm pinching Methodist Sunday School Teaching, I feel a compare and contrast question for a work colleague!!

I doubt if i'm the only one who looks at this thread and laughs. Our new manager is entitled to his personal beliefs and unless they impact on the club or team, why are they more important than talking about him in a football sense? Don't we want to keep politics out of sport as much as possible?

I once called a contributor to this thread right wing and I seem to remember it being denied and the point being argued.

Left OR right, left v right....lets put them in the non football section and make a thread in the football section about our new manager about his plans for the team. Unless of course we are talking about our new left winger versus the oppo's right back.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Imagine being the kind of weirdo who cares which way the club managers votes at all.

So it’s not socialism then. It’s a mixed-market capitalist economic system that features high degrees of private ownership, it’s not socialism or anything resembling it.

We aren’t talking about small freckles of socialism propped up by a wealth of capitalism. Because that would of course be seemed more capitalist than socialist.

So do we have any examples of socialism that has worked long term?

We don’t, do we.

“ small freckles of socialism propped up by a wealth of capitalism.”

I agree with some of your general point, although if there’s one thing the last 15 months or so have shown us, is that capitalism itself is, of course, in turn propped up by socialism.

And it’s the second time in a decade and a half it’s happened.

Neither system works on its own.

Of course capitalism is propped up by socialism, big business, banks and many Governments want to 'privatise profits and socialise losses'.

The point I was making is that capitalism will always work to a sufficient enough degree wherever it is implemented, with or without socialism. It can be argued that “some” elements of socialism can work within that framework and improve a system… but it’s still capitalism.

Socialism will never work wherever it is implemented, if someone wants “some” elements of it then it will only work with huge doses of capitalism to prop it up… so it will still be capitalist frame work. The Nordic model is a perfect example of that, it’s capitalism not socialism, yet those who are asked for an example of a socialist state that has thrived off socialism still use it.

If you put a bit of wool on a wolfs paw, it doesn’t make it a sheep.

Socialism itself is a failed concept with not a single example in history showing any longterm success. Why people still bang on about it is just unfathomable. Just appears to be one of those fashionable things these days.

If the people who I refer to as iPhone socialists had their way and turned the country into a socialist state, I’m pretty sure they would want to turn in back pretty quickly. They have no concept of what it is or more importantly what it inevitably, always, leads to.

It was your reasoning rather than the label itself which caused the conflict.

I asked you if you knew what my political beliefs were, and you didn’t.

You replied with something about banging on about voter fraud which makes me right wing, even though I have been incredibly vocal about the fact I don’t believe in mass voter fraud and always maintained that from day 1.

It was just a bizarre conversation.

I have never considered myself right wing at all, but you are welcome to say I am. I have highlighted my political views clearly in bullet form on this very thread.

I just think you have idiosyncratic beliefs that are yours. (And indeed Lohengrin). I disagree with many, but agree with some. May I ask did you go down the vegan route for health or ethical/environmental reasons?

I’d say that was accurate. I disagree with a fair chunk of either side of the political divide, but recently find myself agreeing with more of the views coming from the right, I just feel the left have lost a large semblance of reality. But I don’t consider myself right wing, I just believe what I believe.

As for veganism it was both really. Always loved animals and it was a bit of a conflict of morals to be contributing to killing them, never really sat well with me and had to conveniently push it to the back of my mind and distance myself from it. But after doing a fair bit of research into the health problems associated with meat consumption it dawned on me that it didn’t feel right at all on any level.

We are at a point in society where we don’t have to harm anything to thrive, so why do we? Was a snap decision for me and went from full blown meat eater to strictly plant based, no bridging period. I’d never go back.

Thanks. Not wanting to know for any judgement or purpose beyond personal interest as someone who works on production animal biology. Need to consider all views.

We all need to eat less and better animal products if that’s our choice. And we all should be aware of how food is produced and be happy with the realisation that a steak or chicken nugget was an animal killed for food.

“ The point I was making is that capitalism will always work to a sufficient enough degree wherever it is implemented, with or without socialism.”

Yes, I know that’s the point you were making. But it’s not true.

Capitalism failed in March 2020 or thereabouts. All over the world. And had to be rescued by the state, the very definition of socialism.

Capitalism works where people as a whole (not individuals, but society) prioritise their economic well-being before anything else. Once they don’t, it will collapse.

It did. That’s why I said in my previous post it had happened twice in 15 years. Although that was more localised and targeted.

In Spring 2020, capitalism collapsed all over the world pretty much.

Ultimately it only works when underpinned by socialism in its most fundamental form. Social provides the safety net that is required for it to operate. Always will do as long as humans as a whole would rather be alive than rich.
