What do you think of the increase Gas & power prices? on 15:55 - Sep 22 by Catullus | That's why I said it's more BS. There is no massive spike, nohuge demand beyond a return to normal levels. They're fixing the markets so they can recoup any profits they lost in the last 18-24 months, they have bonuses and pay rises to think of. Apparently a cold winter in 2021 has depeleted stock levels because of higher demand, well I don't remember it being all that cold, it was hardly Siberian! If there was such high demand why didn't prices rise last winter. We had a very good, long summer last year and this summer has been quite warm, if damp. It's een more BS. |

People are suffering now and it will get worse when the new tax increases hit home , exactly how the Nordic model pays for its utopian society. so If we did adopt that model ( we won't as long as we have a social class system as intrenched as it is ) then who's willing to pay more ?

Why are gas prices going up in the EU is that because of Brexit or possibly a world short as the world recovers from a global pandemic?

Is entirely correct. Unless those of higher incomes are prepared to see a narrowing of pay gaps, then it won't happen. But go figure-I earn as much as my equivalent in Germany, Netherlands and slightly less than Denmark or Sweden. Pay less income tax, but have a lower standard of living. Excessive cost of housing being the biggest driver. As well as the ridiculous amount of NI and pension contributions to get less than my colleagues at retirement. We head towards an American system, but outside of financial services, incomes are lower and living costs greater. A right mess, riven by social class and lack of social mobility.

Incorrect the natural gas price in Europe and UK is exactly the same. It is world market and the price is exactly the same. Just as oil prices are the same price.

They do not have the embedded class system where people are quite happy to be called poor/deprived or working class and wear it as a badge. We need to : Scrap the honours/peerage system as this reinforces "class" and status We need to radically slim down our Monarchy We need attitudes to change from top to bottom We don't like paying tax

Trouble is too many people in this country like receiving benefits without working. In a good socialist system everyone needs to work not rely and tax payers to keep them idle and unproductive.

I haven't taken a look at this thread so far. I'm not surprised with the way it seems to have panned out. I was just wodering if you'd like to expand on the comment that "Your second link is cherry picked data ending just after a double El Nino." We've been through ENOS's previously without you convincing me you have the faintest idea what know you are talking about and I'd be interested to know the relevance of the "double El Nino" and why you think the paper uses "cherry picked data" I realise irony seems to be your super power but accusing that link of being cherry picked when you've posted individual months worth of measured climate data from a record spanning 200 years sort of takes the biscuit. If you understood even the basics of the Earth's Climate you would not need to ask that question. The Solar energy Short Wave Radiation passes straight through the atmosphere and penetrates the Oceans and Seas to a depth of many metres. The El Nino event is when the Seas released that stored energy in to the atmosphere, this in turn produces a very large spike in atmospheric temperatures and quite often a smaller step change in the baseline temperature for a period afterwards. If you had bothered to look at the UAH and Crutem4 data this can clearly be seen. What can also be seen is that since the end of the analysis in that second paper in 2018 the average temperatures have fallen back 0.5C degrees. The Long Wave Radiation should also have fallen back to match. In fact if you look at the Word Document version of that paper and look at figures S1 and S2, which are the actualCERES data and not their "re-analysis" of the data you would notice that the Long Wave component which is being radiated by the Earth is actually lower in 2018 than it was in 2008. While looking at the CRUTEM4 data I also looked at CRUTEM5 and guess what the new versions shows the running average to be 0.5C hotter during the 2016 El Nino than the CRUTEM4 data and the pre 1900 running average to be 0.3C colder. Increasing the Warming Trend by 0.8C I looked at it so that I could download the actual average monthly anomalies to compare their temperatures to this year. The highest anomalies 1998 El Nino +1.34C 2002 El Nino +1.34C 2010 El Nino +1.21C 2015 El Nino +1.26C 2016 El Nino + 2.13C The four months of 2021 2021-02 0.85731995 2021-03 1.1154468 2021-04 0.9677249 2021-05 0.9397832 2021-06 1.2065732 Almost a degree colder than the peak of the 2016 El Nino and back where we were in 1998. But I am sure that as you are so clued up on Climate Change you already knew all this.

Dear me. I meant the relevance of ENSO's to climate change and why you claimed that paper cherry picked data. You reply with more cherry picked data. Its completely irrelevant, for it to be of any relevance you need to consider ocean oscillations and climate throughout geological history. Crack on with that if you want. They haven't only happened since 1998 mind. You do realise that the authors of the paper used radiative kernels to the raw data to remove the noise. They aren't cherry picking data you are, but I really don't think you realise you are and understand why that's a problem. To you it's numbers. Anyway this isn't a climate change thread, I'm not dragging everyone else through your misinterpretation of stuff that you don't understand to start with.

What do you think of the increase Gas & power prices? on 10:07 - Sep 21 by felixstowe_jack | Why should the government have control on what we pay for energy? I would rather pay lower prices in a free market. That gives the people the power to shop around for the best prices. Do you reallt think all prices in shops, online for all goods should by the government? [Post edited 21 Sep 2021 10:09]

Ah the Utopian free market ideal. Drive down prices whilst driving up service. Unfortunately the reality is rather different as shown by our UK rail 'service'. Most expensive and worst service in Europe by far. The other side of the the free market is the expectation for the state to bail them out in times of crisis. Happy to privatise the profits but all too quick to socialise the losses.
