Not only do they have the online giants to contend with, but they also have to deal with a local authority that not only does its level best to discourage people from driving into town to do a bit of shopping, but also actively encourages out of town developments at the same time. Of course, they do this whilst bemoaning the decline of the City Centre. Absolute cretins. All of them.

Agreed. Going into Swansea city centre I feel like an extra in 'Shaun of the dead' . Council has to sort out, the poor students being given accommodation in city centre will be seeking therapy for years. That's just in the daytime, at night I can only hazard a guess.

The government almost encourage shoplifting. A number of years ago a shopkeeper I know caught a shoplifter, called the police. Long story short, the shopkeeper spent longer in the police station giving his statement, the shoplifter left before him. Years ago, over a decade ago, the police officer told shopkeeper they can nick up to £80 a day and never go to jail. It is what it is. Society has been screwed for a long time. One day will hopefully get tough on crime, until we do. Spiralling downwards.

Next stayed open throughout the pandemic but decides to close next year. Meanwhile 3 new shops open in the quadrant and the new arena is due to open in the new year bring thousands of visitors to the city some of whom will want to shop in the City Centre. Sometimes you wonder if Next head office are aware of all the facts before they made the decision.

Visit Bridgend to see the decline in a once thriving town ruined by as you say by difficulty in parking & an out of town shopping centre all approved by the council. I am ashamed of what it has turned into.

Many from our way would have gone to Swansea 30 years or even 20 years ago. Then Carmarthen developed , now online is the first choice , then probably Carmarthen and if necessary probably an extra 30m to Cardiff. A lot of towns are suffering though. Neath. Bridgend . Newport and probably others. Loss of Woolworths and Debenhams now from town centres along with the huge surge in online shopping and development of out of town is all having an impact.

Parking Transport links/ the size of Swansea and surrounding towns and villages, most without a rail link .. Swansea Bay region Neath Valley, Banwen , Swansea Valley, Ammanford, valleys of Port Talbot. Mumbles , Gorseinon and areas of Swansea. Investment. Swansea Bay region selling its self has a tourist destination. Every major company business being helped to locat in Cardiff. Oh yes Cardiff and surrounding areas developing and new rail system..
Next on Oxford St on 12:43 - Oct 2 with 975 views | LittleEnglandJack | I know it's having it's own issues nowadays but the development in Carmarthen probably didn't help matters. Swansea used to be the shopping destination of choice for those of us in Pembrokeshire but after the development there was no point bothering going the extra half hour to Swansea when Carmarthen was more convenient and had a similar (if not better) offering.
