Birmingham City v Swansea City: Matchday Thread 2021/22 ÀFTERMATH 09:38 - Oct 21 with 13363 viewsNotLoyal

Swansea City are on a roll, scoring goals and entertaining the fans. This Saturday the swans travel to Birmingham. Its not in the north, it’s in the midlands, where Baz lives.

Away Fans Guide
It is best to drink in the city centre and get a taxi to the ground (about £9). If you are walking to the ground from the city centre, then you may care to stop at the Anchor Pub on Bradford Street, renowned for its range of real ales on offer. Although there are a number of Blues fans that frequent the pub they tend to be of the CAMRA bearded variety and therefore as long as you don't turn up mobbed handed, you should be okay. The pub is situated just behind Birmingham Coach Station. Going on further towards the ground then you are likely to pass the Old Crown, on Digbeth High Street, which apart from being Birmingham's oldest building, is also a pub which normally allows in away fans. Also in the same area is the DigBrew Company who are based on River Street (B5 5SA) and are open on Saturdays from 12noon. This brewery which is located in an old industrial unit has a bar inside and is welcoming to visiting supporters. Although basic inside, the beer (both real ale and craft) is good and the brewery is around a 15 minute walk away from the visitor's turnstiles (going in the general direction of the city centre)

If you coming by train, or decide to drink in the city centre beforehand, then if you like your real ale, then you can't do much better than visiting the Wellington Pub on Bennetts Hill. With 16 real ales on tap, including 12 guest ales, this is somewhat of a mecca for real ale drinkers. Also on Bennetts Hill, there is the 'Sun On The Hill' pub, which also shows televised sports and there is a Wetherspoons Pub called the Briar Rose, which normally admits visiting fans as long as no colours are shown. The Wellington does not provide food but has no objections to you bringing in your own. There are a couple of taxi ranks nearby that you can use if you wish to get you to the St Andrews ground. You can get more info on the Wellington pub website, including a live 'beer board' showing which ales they are currently serving. Just outside the main entrance to Birmingham New Street Station, is the Shakespeare pub, which is also popular with visiting supporters (normally under the watchful eye of the local Constabulary). Frequented not only those on their way to St Andrews but those on their way to the Hawthorns, as West Brom normally play their Saturday home games on the same day as Birmingham City. Alcohol is normally made available to away fans inside the ground in the form of John Smith’s Bitter or Fosters Lager (£3.80 per pint), as well as Bottles of Bulmers Cider (£3.60) and Wine (£3.90). However, for certain high profile fixtures, the Club opts not to sell any to away fans.

Official ticket news : Further tickets have been made available for Saturday’s Championship clash against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s (3pm). The Jack Army sold their initial allocation of 1500, with extra tickets now available on general sale. The Swans are going in search of a third straight win and are sure to have a strong away contingent cheering on Russell Martin and his players.

Olivier Ntcham looking to start the game against Birmingham City today 23rd Oct 2021 08:32
We had news this morning that Flynn Downes is still carrying a knock from the West Brom game on Wednesday evening, but is determined to get himself fit for today’s game against Birmingham City. Tests yesterday concluded he isn’t one hundred per cent, but may improve with a further twenty four hours rest. 0

Team news : Birmingham City v Swansea City 23rd Oct 2021 14:01
The team sheets are in from both managers and these are the numbers for today’s game at St Andrews. 0

Swansea get the Chong idea and lose 2-1 at Birmingham City 23rd Oct 2021 17:42
Tahith Chong earned a clear man of the match award at St Andrews this afternoon, despite the swans aiding the blues cause with as many misplaced passes than they have made in any game this season. Possibly in the last five at least. It wasn’t despite the swans efforts it was because of their efforts this game was lost. And it wasn’t pretty. 0

Nothing more to follow.

Could well be 2,000 up there. Anyone know if they have a big concourse ?

I’ve booked to park in a supermarket car park less than a mile from the ground. Not been to the ground before, friends at work from Birmingham have said it’s not a good area to leave a car. Was thinking supermarket car park is Ok. Anyone else have any recommendations? TIA

Three wins on the bounce. It would be great but does not happen that often.

Although they have a poor recent run of games a single goals against Rotherham and Huddersfield would have them on the same points as us.
This game will be difficult.
Several of our players looked completely shattered after the WBA win.
Brum would love to beat the team that just beat WBA.
We are still very much a work in progress.
I'd like to think 0 - 2 but it will be much tougher than Cardiff.

Playing Whitland under 9’s apparently would be tougher.

.

If Martin continues to progress in the way he has by ditching his self indulgent Plan A in favour of the more pragmatic winning ways, continues to swallow his pride and listen to the senior players, he should select the finishing team against the Baggies.

Smith to provide the streetwise hod carrying role in place of rookie Downes who didn't have his best game and negated the impact of Grimes. Downes needs a rest, to watch and learn from the side lines again.

Brum were brushed aside by the Baggies in the final quarter. In theory this should be a comfortable 2-0 to the mighty Swans, if Martin doesn't stray and self indulge, like he has done.

Not a lot of news on the paying of respects, I’m assuming the sixth minute ?
However, I’m sure the swans fans will all come together as one. This case is shocking.

Oh come on, deal with what has happened, not with what didn't happen!

After all if we had scored one less against Luton and WBA we'd have 5 fewer points, but that didn't happen either.

Maybe Birmingham didn't score for a very good reason, they are poor?

I'm not saying the game will be easy but there's no need to talk them up and us down at the same time.

What's wrong with thinking We beat WBA and WBA beat Brum so we should have a good chance of winning?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Wanting style over substance I would have thought he was referring to. MK dons fans accused him of wanting to pad the stat sheet to make the club and him be talked about as opposed to winning matches.

Doesn’t look like that is the case any longer though so happy days.

On a side note:-

Cardiff 0-1 Boro

Looks like Warnock may put the boot in to Mick, who must be on the verge tonight if this remains.

9 goal attempts to 1 in Boros favour.

He’s another complete knib of a WUM that has nothing better to do than provoke sensible responses from knowledgable fans. He’s about 16 with a good eye for cut and paste.

Back to the game a draw would be a good result but a win would be the icing on a cake the lads and manager deserve. Let’s ram Lee Bowyers* “predictable Swansea” barb last season down his throat !

*he was absolutely right of course. Our manager wasn’t even capable of switching from plan A - he didn’t have any other method.

Thankfully we were predictable enough to finish 4th.

I’d love to be as predictable if it meant we finished 4th this season.
