Russia invade Ukraine 14:17 - Dec 23 with 147685 viewsFlynnidine_Zidownes

Discuss.

Also why is Putin always described in the media as this rugged strongman? He’s barely five foot tall with his high heels on.

But that’s another debate.

Why do you seem to omit the NATO aspect from all of your posts justifying and supporting the invaison then?

Not on purpose, buy yes, NATO has been encouraging the Ukraine.Yes, they have a right to join, but this is the real world, it's realpolitik, and Putin sees it as intimidation.

It's not supporting anything, but Putin does have a point. It will be over soon anyway

He doesn't have a point. It's up to Ukraine and any other country if they want to join NATO or the EU. Nobody else.

NATO isn't a threat to Russia per se, it's a threat to Putins Russia under the current circumstances. The world has moved on since the Cold War but Putin hasn't, he's taking Russia back to the days of the Soviet Union, but now the Russian people have had 30 odd years of living in a more open Russia. I'm pretty sure they won't stand for missing out on a McDonalds and not being able to go to Europe on holiday for much longer, whilst the bodies of dead servicemen mount up, they'll want him gone.

Putin will achieve his revised aims I've got no doubt about that, but they are revised aims, and if the Russian forces were as strong as reported they should have achieved them by now. They seem to be throwing the kitchen sink at a relatively small area of Donbas and that isn't sustainable.

Zelensky will still be president and seen as a hero across the world for many years and Russia will have two new NATO members within farting distance of St Petersberg.
Meanwhile NATO have watched every play in Russia's military book and know their strengths and many weaknesses. NATO will strengthen their armed forces based on the known threat from Russia, while Russia flounder under increasingly tougher sanctions.

That is not what Putin set out to achieve

He will have achieved more than he expected.Destruction of the Ukranian military. NATO and the UN shown to be impotent. Sanctions not working as the Russian economy is booming. Divisions amoung NATO countries ie Turkey. It's not over yet of course

More than he expected? A larger NATO, not being able to sell his oil and gas to the west, an airfleet they can't maintain and can't fly over large chunks of the world, not being able to buy important weapons parts, not being able to use most major banking systems, oligarchs who've had their possesions taken from them and a nation with no western companies. That's certianly more than he expected.

He will destroy a significant amount of the Ukrainian military, no doubt. I'd expect there to be an arms deal incoming with western arms companies to re-equip them. Of course not without cost to the Russians, we now know one of their largest ship types is vulnerable to rudimentary anti-ship missiles. I wonder what a state of the art US anti ship missile would do to their only aircraft carrier? We also know they aren't very good at crossing rivers.

The UN are impotent. Always have been and probably always will be. NATO have been shown to be anything but, they've put their weapons in the arms of untrained soldiers who are still managing to keep one of the largest armies in the world at bay and forced them to drastically change their aim.

The Russian economy isn't booming. Unless you mean the rouble? A strong currency isn't the indicator of a booming economy.

We'll see what happens with Turkey, I'd bet they allow Finland and Sweden to join after they denounce some Kurdish groups. A win - win situation for Erdogan.

Regardless on what ground is or isn't lost it'll never be over . Russia has attacked a sovereign nation , threatened to overthrow a democratically elected government committed genocide and you think the west will ignore that . Do you know just how many countries have sent war crimes investigators to look into the actions of Putin. The ICC alone have sent over 40 investigators , by the way they're not there on a jolly . You think it'll be over soon try telling that to the surviving Ukrainians civilians , memories have been made by Russia's actions and this will never be forgotten. This is a war which can never be won by Russia and they will feel the consequences of this for years to come .Hearts and minds and thy haven't won either

The trouble with the UN is that some countries abuse their veto so no action can taken against them.
Need to be reformed so the Security Council only need 10 of its 15 members to vote for action.

It's been going on for 8 years. The Ukraine shelling and attacking Russians and Ukrainians in the Donbass area.We can send as many investigators as we like, it will make no difference, because the US hasn't signed up to the International courts. UIkraine, should have thought of the consequences before allowing and supporting the crimes they have been doing in the east.It won't happen again, that's for sure.

Just for those with a low intellect the hint is in the title "The International Criminal Court (ICC) ) not the US Criminal Court . A statement by the ICC The International Criminal Court stated in April that for the first time it will be part of a multination investigative team to probe whether Russia committed war crimes during its two-month invasion of Ukraine.

Then a joint statement by the countries noted below :
"Statement on behalf of Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, European Union:

We welcome Ukraine’s application against Russia before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which seeks to establish that Russia has no lawful basis to take military action in Ukraine on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations of genocide.

In these proceedings, the ICJ issued a significant ruling on March 16, 2022, which orders Russia to immediately suspend its military operations in Ukraine. We welcome the Court’s ruling and strongly urge Russia to comply with this legally binding order.

Reaffirming our commitment to accountability and the rules-based international order, we hereby express our joint intention to explore all options to support Ukraine in its efforts before the ICJ and to consider a possible intervention in these proceedings.

We strongly believe that this is a matter that is rightfully brought to the ICJ, so that it can provide judgement on Russia’s allegations of genocide as basis for its unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine. As the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, the ICJ is a pillar of the rules-based international order and has a vital role to play in the peaceful settlement of disputes.

We call upon the international community to explore all options to support Ukraine in its proceedings before the ICJ."

This is why so many of the above countries have sent their own teams in to investigate possible genocide and war crimes , you're not right very often but your last sentence quite prophetic .

A country doesn't have to be at war for someone's actions to be considered traitorous. This country has sided very strongly with the Ukraine, your words of support for Russia are the words of traitors who speak in favour of a country we are at odds with. You are being disloyal to this country with your support of Russia.

Russia isn't kicking Ukraine's arse either no matter how much you'd love that to be true, wish it was true. Ukraine is putting up one hell of a fight and making your fanboy opinions look very stupid.

Yes they do you idiot. My allegiances are always with Great Britain. But not the USA or the EU.
Nor with the idiots supporting the Ukraine’s 8 year shelling of the Donbas region.

It doesn’t matter how big NATO is. They will NEVER risk invading Russia as the consequences may very well be thermonuclear war.

Whether being the pivotal word in your statement. The UN is already aware of Ukrainian war crimes and is investigating.

Meanwhile the encirclement of the Ukrainian army in Donbas is almost complete following territorial breaches in the defensive positions by DPR and LPR forces. Check , mate.

A few of your previous posts " They’ve (Russians ) liberated Mariopol and are busy moving westwards from the Donbas." or another " This is why the talk of Russian atrocities is laughable " and lastly " And don’t come back with the mass graves - that’s an utter myth"

Grow a pair and admit your're Pro Russian instead of hiding behind your self proclamation of being a critical thinker. , you're not, you're an apologist for the unlawful actions of a dictatorship trying to impose its will on a democratically elected government and nation and with that imposition thousands of innocents are dying and homes & lives destroyed .

The binary choice you’re giving me - and yourself is either pro Ukraine or pro Russia. You’ve chosen to back the Ukraine on the back of an an old mistrust of the USSR (it’s defunct now and has been for nearly 35 years by the way) and a misconception of what the Donbas conflict is all about, the provocateurs and the victims (who are overwhelmingly Russian speaking Ukrainians who have suffered 8 years of constant shelling from UAV forces).

So given the choice I’m backing Russia and not the Ukraine. Dry you eyes mate.
