Police State

No one including the emergency services should be beyond criticism . IMO in this instance criticism is more than justified .

Considering how little presence they have in my area I consider it a reflection on the level of crime there is , I couldn't comment about harassment other than it may exist ,it may not.

Indeed, nothing like a bit of honest appraisal, arse-kicking and (slang term for a certain profession) "an interview without coffee" to stop a future repeat of what happened!

Apparently the senior officer on the scene requested specialist back up but was refused it TWICE. Then he went outside the command chain to get the help he needed.

Whoever it was (senior to him/her) needs stuffing with a rag mans trumpet! people were genuinely in danger, someone could have died.

This is what's wrong with the police, it's not the front line officers, it's the higher ups who make really stupid choices.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

The visible presence has shrunk significantly over the last 20 years. Police officer numbers have been cut severely, on top of that prioritisation of other core areas of business such as safeguarding (things like domestic violence, child abuse etc) have seen more resources directed away from frontline response services. Theyā€™ve also lost a lot of experienced officers and have some pretty inexperienced ā€œbossesā€ these days.

In terms of the riot, it was a shocking response and itā€™s good to see a forthright report telling it as it is. Feel sorry for the police on the ground, seems like theyā€™ve been let down by people further up the chain of command. Be interesting to see what ranks were involved.

I thought our highly paid Police Commissioner would be answerable for this debacle but Iā€™ve not seen or heard any comment from him regarding the riot.

Son in law is AFO Interceptor but finally decided he has had enough and taking charge of a new department;the Drone Dept.

Police on the streets have been dumped and are lions led by donkeys. Most CC s turn my stomach.Check out the CC of Derbyshire.

I served under several Superintendents who went on to be CCs and were mainly tankers.

Agree with all the above.

Iā€™d like to know if there was any action taken against the perpetrators, mind.

It seems perfectly justifiable to criticise to police action on this occasion, but this shouldnā€™t give those idiots involved in the riot a free pass.

The SWP senior officer talked about bringing people to justice, but didnā€™t say if anyone had been charged. Based on that I suspect nobodyā€™s been charged yet.

Itā€™s been over 8 months since the riot and with 25 arrested its a complex job, but Iā€™d have hoped thereā€™d be some movement on this by now.

Your first paragraph is banal drivel uttered by CCs on the lines of "working in consultion with our partners","along with the community",unacceptable to stateholders. All crap talk.

We sadly have a Police service that has lost its way.It wont" enforce" ,it wont control if there are social or political repercussions.
We no longer have experienced, street wise, hardened thief takers as Chief Cons. We do have aspiring political animals that want their QPM then retire to a lucrative little consultancy job.

The BBC wales guy said heā€™d passed the Townhill police station on the way to report is at there were a dozen vans outside. No police presence when he got there , when he left at 11.30 pm still no police and still a dozen vans outside the cop shop

Yes I read that , that's possibly the one of the most shameful part of the police response , they didn't .

In response to the report's findings, South Wales Police Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan said: ā€œI want to apologise to all those who have been affected by this incident and particularly those local residents who were tormented by those responsible. We failed to take action quickly enough on the night and for that I am truly sorry.

"We have made some immediate improvements to our operational practices following this incident including how we manage information around an escalating incident and how we draw upon resource from across South Wales and beyond more quickly.ā€

I do respect the Police but it is hard to believe that in this day and age of communication and the way the police have the ability to watch nearly all our public access they took so long to respond .
Pity they spend all their finances on high speed unmarked cars rather than what's really needed, look at how many BMWs you see attending a vehicle break down on the motorway for example.

I think their command and control and operational command have completely dropped the ball. According to the report Gwent had riot police working and they werenā€™t called until it had finished!!! Nuts.

We now live in a different world.
When I was a kid there were local bobbies walking the streets who knew everyone on their patch.
They knew all the bad uns, and left the good uns alone.
They were respected.
Now in this area, I very rarely see a policeman/woman walking the streets, getting to know people. They drive everywhere , never getting out of their car, waiting for their shift to end.
Then you have the ones hiding behind a car with a camera booking people for doing a couple of miles over the limit. Easy pickings.

They do seem to catch the drug suppliers though, usually between Oswestry and Welshpool. They say they are on a drive out, and only an hour from home. But when the car is searched, BINGO.
