Swansea City in automatic promotion form ! 14th Apr 2022 08:00
Over the past ten games Swansea City have enjoyed play off form, and over the last six it’s automatic promotion for the swans along with Nottingham Forest. We have all seen the games which have made this current run of form so inspiring, not only to the fans but clearly the whole thing is rubbing off on the players as well. 0

Whilst he is wrong that it's the reason why there are so many foreigners in british football he is right about kids not being able to play a passing game, id say that most if not all of our players have come through academies so why has it taken so long for most of them to get RMs passing game.

Look at grimes, he's one of our best players and he can't pass with his right foot, how good would he be if he could pass with both feet.

It takes talent to do it to the level required by this extreme/unique system, not just training. Our academy sides have been playing out from the back for years, as all Cat 1 and most Cat 2 setups do. To some players it comes naturally, and to others it will always be awkward. It's outside the skillset of most traditional big strong centre halves, while players with experience in midfield and fullback like Naughton and Manning have adapted more easily.

A lot of it has to do with the standard of coaching IMO. That's also reflected in the lack of British managers at the top level.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Very little to do with it.

It’s simply the nature of choice. Football is a global game now.

When you have the choice of every league on the planet to purchase from, its very likely that the best player in a certain position will be situated in another part of the world than the small part you are in.

The U.K. is tiny.

It’s a bit like saying “why aren’t all our players from Swansea”. The reason is the same, chances are there will be better players available in each position outside Swansea - as it’s tiny, and the world is massive.

It’s as simple as that. It’s a statistical inevitability.

At times players who are as good or better are available for less money abroad ?
In the past Bony and Michu, currently Piroe are examples.
Sure all these would have been more expensive if they were British and playing for British clubs ?
I do agree coaching in the UK may also be having an impact

The players have now gelled and are understanding the system.its taken some of them a lot longer than it should, but they have got there. It's a simple system really, but if players have never played it, which is crazy really, then they find it hard to get into. An example is an old fashioned centre half Bennett, who will find it almost impossible to ay this way week in and week out.
Kids should be taught the passing game from 4 years old upwards. But parents prefer their team to win 10-0 by banging up to the best player in the team and him scoring.
It's why there are so many foreigners in the English game.

Absolute nonsense from somebody who clearly has no clue, most esp no clue about academy football in this country.

Nigh on all academies - semi-pro clubs and lower leagues play proper possession based football; most talented players are rotated around at least 4/5 positions from an early age; heads-up measured risk taking is the norm. You'll see the Cambridge Utd lads go toe-toe with Spurs, Arsenal lads. It's a fabulous spectacle.

Swansea Schoolboys from way back in the day has always been thus.

You speak like a park football, Sunday league wannabe. No clue, whatsoever.

Wages are higher in the EFL relative to talent than most if not all European/World leagues. Most countries don't have 4 divisions of fully professional clubs, even the Netherlands has semi-pro and youth sides in their second tier. And obviously the PL is the richest league of all, no other nation's 18th, 19th and 20th best teams make well over £100m a year.

Younger players also tend to get regular chances earlier than they do here, even in major leagues like Spain, so what talent they do have is more experienced/advanced.

It's not that British players are less talented or not well-trained. Until Brexit changed the rules there has been a plentiful supply of foreign workers who are cheap, talented, experienced and willing to work. In those conditions the domestic league of a nation of 70 million is going to see a lot of players from the rest of the world of 8 billion. Even if they've been taught to pass the ball at 4 years old.

tThat last sentence you say that the British players discarded are as talented as the foreign players brought in, but the foreign players are cheaper.

A lot of kids are in this country are urged to just get it upfield and into the net.
A lot of other countries coaches teach the basics of pass pass pass, keep keep keep.

Curtis is my favourite ever player and the greatest Swans Club man ever.
However no way would Martin listen to him.
The form lately has been great.
If it continues who knows it will lead ?

says a lot about Martin's arrogance if he wouldn't listen to a club legend who played under one of our great managers who also went to manage Real Madrid twice in Tosh who as a rookie manager had his own mentor...
Funny how RM wouldn't want to listen to Curt when he had served on the coaching staff if Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup...says a lot

I agree Martin is arrogant.
It is my belief that most if not all successful football managers are arrogant and have self belief, however misguided it may be.

Not the end of the world at all.

But a very poor performance and a regression to a style that has caused so much frustration this season.

The reaction to the game and what is being said is valid.

Agree.
I do think many, including myself, expected us to win.
However, as results at Derby and elsewhere showed, football rarely works that way.

Many bad ones are arrogant too. Largely due to that arrogance.

Those at the top that are arrogant are so because they have earned their stripes and proved their ideas work. They were not arrogant when they went into management and many of them had mentors and were willing to learn along the way.

The one system that is foolproof and guaranteed to work everytime is........ no there isn't one.
There is no such thing as Martinball and Cooperball there is a team that is set up to play against the predicted setup of another team.
If you don't get it right initially you change something, see if it works and hope the opposition manager doesn't get his team right
So many variables for a manager to consider, play to your teams strengths and ignore the weaknesses or concentrate on weaknesses at the expense of your strengths.
We have seen lots of different managers over the year trying to get a tune out of a team but ultimately it is the players responsibility to take the game to the opposition.

It’s not about the system that’s guaranteed to work every time.

At the higher levels I wouldn't necessarily say that was true. Things have moved on since the 80's and 90's and standards are improving on a technical leveI, albeit slowly. don't doubt that there are a lot of kids still being schooled in the Charles Hughes style further down the pyramid though, particularly outside club structures. His influence runs pretty deep.

We've just got a long way to go to consistently develop the kind of technically capable footballer that other nations do as standard. These things can take a generation to instil properly, and if there's enough old school "up and at 'em" types in the process it can still founder.

You just have to look at how few British coaches are working at higher levels elsewhere in Europe to see the regard in which they're held. A lot of that admittedly is down to the attraction of the Premier League, money and the language barrier, but there needs to be an awful lot more Graham Potters. Prepared to go and broaden their horizons lower down and work their way back up. They'll be better coaches for it.

Martin hasn’t ‘changed’ anything. His system, and perhaps most importantly, club culture takes a season to learn hence the term transition which has been stressed by many of us who have been patient and realistic over the past year. We are now reaping some of the rewards of our hard work across the season, going seven unbeaten. We will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with next season given squad depth that comes from financial backing and the fans getting behind an ambitious vision and project that has never been done before!

Viva Swansea. Viva Martinball.

Nottingham Forest spent 4m this year overall while already having a far better squad. We spent less than 2. We need to spend to be competitive, this is the simple rule of football.

If we spend like a mid table club we can temper our expectations to be of those of a mid table club.

I think if we sell Piroe ( don't want to but seems inevitable as no talk of trying to keep him so far ) then a good chunk of that money should be used to strengthen the squad and push on to promotion.
