1986-87 working a YTS for a one man band uPVC window company £27.50 a week 1st year £35.00 a week 2nd year The boss would top that up with an extra £20 a week and then give me an extra £20 for a Saturday morning job and finish and he would always pay for chippy or café breakfasts in the week.
About £10 a week to my mother for keep left me with £60 + a week For 16-17 yr old mid 1980's happy days in a simpler world

same here . the way of working has changed immeasurably and mostly for the better .One of my previous jobs involved free climbing on steel work sometimes covered with wet algae , ice and grease silicon etc ( no permanent attachment then) , but it did focus your attention of the task in hand , Still think I could put a shift in but probably not , 1 days work then 4 days recovering .

Great times! Being young, the excitement and hardly a care in the world , except drinking and holidaying with your mates. Beach on a Sunday. (Summer obviously) Football, gigs, town and girls! Was speaking to one of the girls from Shades the other day and reminiscing about the 80's. As good times as they were I'm having as much enjoyment in middle age as I ever did. Different kind but thankfully healthy and reasonably fit and looking forward to great years ahead!

Bloody hell mate, let’s get a time machine.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

You think you had it good in the 80s. You should have been around in the 70s the candy shop was open 24 hours a day.

Brilliant post!
Drinking on The Kingsway when Wind street was just another dead part of town! Shades, Rumours, Martha's, Mothers, Central Park, Ritz's, Harpers, Barons
Pulling a bird on the weekend and then "ringing her house" and asking for her after she had written her number on your arm.
Walking home from town because you had no money for a taxi after a night out or occasionally doing the odd runner from a taxi, Caswell beach, sleeping out on Oxwich beach, buzzing around town & Mumbles in the car, away games not really knowing where you were going and not really caring either, FA cup games down the Vetch
Life was easier then you just went out and whatever happened....happened !
