Sprinkler full go this morning, passed it at 10.30 and again on the way back at 11.45. Pitch looks lovely and green but so does Royal Ashleigh golf course just over the road. Heatwave will be over by Monday, so its hardly needed and why during the day, its the worst time to do it?

There are 3 possibilities for the water:
- recycled from the pool, which I doubt as there are chemicals in it
- stored in a large tank, after getting it off the pool roof, which would be a great solution
- off the water mains, bad show if it is, even though we're not under a hosepipe ban

Not sure where you got the misapprehension that the South of England suffers from flooding in the Winter or there are no reservoirs.

The areas if the UK that get regular flooding are river Wye in Hereford and Worcester and along the River Severn. Unsurprisingly the areas that get flooding are in the West of of the UK the areas with the highest rainfall. Perhaps better Water capture on those rivers would help prevent flooding and summer water shortages.

You often get flash floods after thunderstorms aftet a drought that is because the surface water does not drain due to bone hard ground and the drains being overwhelmed.

It is completely different to rivers bursting their banks after prolonged heavy rain.

indeed , after a very long spell of dry weather the time it takes for the ground to absorb any rain fall will have the same affect as ground which has been constantly been affected by heavy rainfall , the ground cannot absorb the rainfall resulting in floods

Bit out of my depth on this subject regarding water , a mate of mine worked in Australia and mentioned their use of the desalination method there .

Practical for the UK , or false economy , given we should expect water companies to realise the sun does shine for a few weeks in the summer and maybe this could be an option .

Thames Water built one for London and the South East, but it’s not working and won’t be until next year. Problems with the design and varying salinity of the water. Not good!

I think that you will find floods at this time of the year in unusual places. Quite often the problem is drains blocked with leaves and rain collecting in dips in the road.

In many places councils have not cleared leaves or cleaned drains since 2019. No wonder the water has nowhere to go.
