So I am looking to make more use of my camper van.
Anyone do wild camping ?
If so what are your favourite spots in South or West Wales
Preferably near a beach or river etc with pub nearby ?

Up until last autumn Oxwich beach (privately owned) were allowing vans like mine to park overlooking the beach.
Would have been perfect.
Sadly some idiots started doing and dealing drugs down there ( on a beautiful day in front of families ! )
Police were called and the owners changed their policy
I have done wild camping before but usually look for somewhere with at least a couple of vans, cars, etc otherwise as you say can be a bit nervewracking

If you don't want to travel far. Tafarn y Garreg
Located in the Brecon Beacons National Park in the foot hills of the Black Mountain Range on the A4067 providing Riverside pub campsite in the Brecon Beacons National Park
Campfire pits: just bring your own firewood
Direct access to the Beacons Way; Dan-yr-Ogof Caves within a mile

Welsh river and Welsh wander: small and friendly Tafarn-Y-Garreg Campsite is a riverside site in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with direct access to the Beacons Way footpath, the 95-mile trail meandering through the park up to the highest peak in the Black Mountains, Fan-Brycheiniog, and the Brecons's glacier lakes.

And as you might wish when staying in such a walkable place, Tafarn-Y-Garreg has a cosy pub too… It's a mountain-style chalet, serving food in the evening and a wide range of fine brews such as lagers, ales and ciders to have in front of the fire after a long day.

Sound like some great places there. Thanks
Fancy doing the Scottish NC500 maybe later this year or next year.
Had this van since July and due to several reasons ( including breaking my foot playing football ) my plans have been curtailed.
So want to kickstart the year and make the most of my free time ( around the Swans fixtures, plus my partner's shift pattern. I am lucky to be a man of leisure )
I did Scotland a few times with my late wife including on the shores of Loch Ness ( no sightings sadly ) so look forward to exploring more up there

I haven't got my van anymore, but have a caravan , taking it to Scotland in May, will base ourselves in 3sites and take in some of the sights the NC 500 will allow a pair of old duffers to do.

Looking forward to it.

I’d defo recommend going to Applecross over the mountain pass, but make sure you’ve not got your van with you as it’s not suitable for big combinations.

I don't take my caravan very far thesedays, as it's not worth the hassle. The return journey packing up, hitching and then towing is always an anti climax

Have you thought about finding a site you really like then pitching it there on a seasonal pitch ?
As was discussed on a previous thread, some will even pitch it ready for you and put it back in storage afterwards ?

I have thought of it, but we like to move around if it's not too far. We tend to go to Gateway in Bynea, as it's reasonable and things to do there for the grandkids. Showering and toilet facilities are not the best though as the water pressure is low

Years since I been there and heard it was good, especially for families.
Think they spent a small fortune there.
Wouldn't cost much to sort the water out you would think ?
I certainly agree about moving around.
Have often thought and looked at buying a static or apartment either here or abroad, but love to go and see new places and have different experiences

We follow a couple on You tube who travel Europe and wild camp , oldish cple like ourselves , and they do pretty well, their last trip was to Norway.

Plenty of aires in France, and most towns villages have a free overnight stay somewhere , some are basic, others offer elect.

Builth car park next to the Wye river let’s motor homes stay overnight. The toilet block has a shower for a quid.
Llandrindod Lake has camper vans most nights. Free.

Builth is a fantastic location right in the centre.
Just have to pay for extra tickets if you have a long vehicle taking two spaces.
That Llandrindod one sounds fantastic

** you won't see a traffic warden in Builth after 4pm and before 9am
Llandrindod lake has no restrictions. Lovely cafe there, cracking breakfast.
You can also meet me for a couple of pints of course.
