| Yet more Senedd nonsense 17:58 - Feb 3 with 8049 views | SullutaCreturned | Well then, in order to relieve congestion on th M4 they are going to build 5 new train stations, most likely in South East Wales. Putting aside the obvious shafting of the rest of South Wales again, why do they think this will work? 1, trains are already packed and expensive, more stations won't help that. 2, it won't take the business traffic off the M4, reps will still use their cars, lorries will still need the roads and to the other road users it'll be a matter of finance and convenience. is the train cheaper and easier, if not they won't use it. More stations won't change those things. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ Are the Senedd about to splash out millions on something that I personally believe to be a silly idea? | | | | |

Scared of a populist backlash? Who from, Wales always votes labour you say, why would all their supporters fight back when we desperately need investment in our country? Truth is, Drakeford needs to be able to blame Westminster so he won't raise taxes and risk the people noticing how inept they actually are in Cardiff bay. Drakeford could put 2p in the pound on income tax and raise how much? Does anyone know?

Of course they know. They also know the Tory press will weaponise any welsh tax. Like the games they played with m4 relief road. Also an excuse for Westminster to cut back on the little they do actually do for Wales. If its targetted and successful then i would still do it. Shirley even you can see the inherant risks …?

What games were played on the relief road? The money was there to improve infrastructure into Wales. It was an awful decision, regardless of whatever politics you believe in. [Post edited 5 Feb 2023 7:02]

This means they have less to spend. This means roads, schools, hospitals, emergency services, military, and social care get underfunded - and fail. Well done to Brexit half wits 🇬🇧 GSTK etc |
Not like you to post another lie is it. The UK economy GDP has grown by 1.9% in the last 13 months while you post the GDP in September when the country virtual shut down for 10 days and we had an extra bank holiday for the state funeral.

Do you mean cut back on the Huge subsidies the UK taxpayers give to Wales around £3000 per person extra funding. They also agreed to fully fund the vital M4 infrastructure programme which is need for the prosperity of Wales. Yet Drakeford was happy to accept UK taxpayers money which came via the EU for the heads of the valley upgrade.

Sadly, the UK economy is the only one of the G7 economies that is still smaller than it was prior to the pandemic and prospects for this year don’t look good. Something isn’t right and it doesn’t help when we’ve got politicians won't take responsibility and address the issues.

The UK has one if the lowest unemployment rates in the G7 and nearly half that of the EU. Unfortunately our economy is being held back by strikes, inefficient working practices, low productivity. Until we sort these out we will not prosper. Wales is even less productive than the rest of the UK which trlss you something about the Senedd's reluctance to invest in new infrastructure especially roads.

Yes because there so obviously haven't been any strikes by train workers, posties or anyone else. You really must try harder.

If the high employment rate is such a positive, why the rise in food banks and right leaning media headlines of the lack of people contributing to tax as their wages are so low they still need benefits? Why do you insist on comparisons to the EU average? Is that the limit of your ambitions? Is that why we left the EU, to compete with the average? I don’t think that’s good enough. Even with high employment, there’s still massive recruitment issues. Do you think Brexit has been an issue. I’m more than happy to agree that there are other factors that have caused us major difficulties, but it really obvious (and more by the day) that Brexit was a mistake. We just need to get over the latest line around rubbish negotiators and we can get on with repairing the relationship.

The strikes are relatively recent and while they a slight factors, things like inefficient practices, low producing and Brexit are bigger factors. Not arguing about the infrastructure, it’s a major issue and the WG is definitely behind the curve. Infrastructure in the UK as whole is very poor, but worse here. In places like Germany they invest in their infrastructure and are streets ahead of us.

I feel this is really holding back potential business into the area. The money was on the table from the government for the relief road. I honestly belief if it had been a Labour UK government releasing the funds then the work would now be on going . |

One of the primary reasons we have high employment is because we’ve a shed full of people on disability, in addition a huge number have retired or left work post pandemic which means there are less people looking for work. The Government have identified this and are trying to push people who’ve retired back in to work.

Listening on Times radio ( much better than Radio 4 imo) they had many over 50's commenting on why they had retired and the reason why they had no intention of returning to the workplace, with analysts recording that since 2019 a rise of 160.000 + of 50 to 64 year olds who weren't working due to ill health , could it be because waiting times for operations have increased etc ?

I was in Hirwaun today. It's seems if the work is going on for ever. Aberdare onwards a nightmare. The time it took to get the A465 Brynmawr to Abergavenny complete took an age, then slowed down to 50 mph with absolutely no built up area to by pass?

I used to regularly use the HoV road if heading to the Midlands rather than M4/5 because of the traffic/accidents etc, in actual fact the mileage is pretty much the same, once they started the work on it, that was it chaos on both routes and its been like that for about 5-6 years.

Only in Wales will you find a new dualled road network which cost over 300 hundred million pounds to built and intended to as many other dual carriageways a 70mph speed limit reduced to to 50 mph to save the planet.

Yet it might not even make the top five most idiotic decisions that the Welsh Govt have come up with. I'm surprised that they don't limit Rhoose Airport to Zeppelins only. Would make about as much sense as what they've done to the HoV road.

I'm sure that there's more to come , their agenda for Wales has no limits when it comes to making idiotic decisions . “The M4 is a matter for the Welsh Government, not Westminster, and our decision has already been made. We remain committed to tackling congestion with solutions that recognise the unprecedented challenge of climate change as well as the financial pressures caused by 10 years of austerity and capital budget cuts.” and as we've seen this week their plan is to built 5 railway stations , not sure how that will help a motorway network built in the 60's evolve into the 21st century but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain , Kilkenny the floors all yours ?

The main trouble with politicians playing games its us the end user which tend to suffer . Drakeford may or maynot have received the money for the by pass but he turned it down it because of his political ideology wouldn't let him and not because he wanted to protect the great crested newt ( of which there were many found and recorded in the Ecological Connectivity Assessment of Settlements in Monmouthshire Report 10th May 2010 )
