Return of the inverted full backs killed us 22:25 - Nov 25 with 2679 viewsJoesus_Of_Narbereth

Full backs stepping into centre midfield when we had the ball. Left our flanks completely exposed and Cabango having to step out to deal with wingers. Especially our right flank with Ronald and Cullen giving the ball away stupidly at every opportunity. Key just doesn’t have the footballing intelligence or ability to play such a role. Both their goals came from that side it’s no coincidence.

If we are to persist with this system we need a right back who can actually do it. Perhaps Galbraith could fill that role for now until we get someone decent in.

Poll: We all dream of a managerial team of Alan Tates?

Centre backs don’t always need to be quick though. Cabango and Burgess are also a bit cumbersome and slow on the turn although Cabango does have good recovery pace when he gets going. Most of our goals conceded are coming from crosses/set pieces and he is 6’5 ish perhaps that’s exactly what we need?

I’m not sure writing off a player coming back from a long injury for 25 minutes in a game we’ve already lost is a fair assessment.

What if the opposition has a quick front man?

They will obviously target him.

Sit a bit deeper, or step up to play him offside. A well positioned centre back should rarely have to turn.

Tymon has pleasantly surprised me I think he’s one of the better left backs in the league, Key has regressed though to a pathetic level, whether it’s confidence or he just wasn’t good enough in the first place I don’t know but he doesn’t seem to have any defensive awareness whatsoever. When he first came he was playing on the left and skipping past players for fun I don’t know what happened to him. Perhaps being the only right back at the club has bred complacency because he knows he’s gonna get picked no matter what.

Firstly, thanks for this dialogue. It is absolutely what is needed.
I think Key could play better . I think he has been subject to too much non coaching by successive coaches not worthy of the title .He looks broken and very unhappy in his job.
Rather than persist with him ,as he has been,we should have by now amended our formation to counter this as Parker, apparently,is not up to it. Its not fair om him or the team
False forum praise does him no favours as he muct know in himself hes lost right now. I hope he comes good but if he cant ,we sell him.
Tymon is a good crosser but sorry, not a defender in real terms . He could be pretty effectiver a s a midfield wide man. Why havent we tried SS at left back and him as left mid. That would of course mean benching Eom,which we should .He is simply not strong enough for this league. His stats say he has had shots. I ll leave it there

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Tymon can’t defend ,his awareness and positioning is awful ,he just allows players too much space and time to get the ball and run at him , he can’t tackle and just backs off until he’s in our goal area ,the number of crosses coming in from his side is testament to this but he is good going forward and crossing and does contribute to the attack,he’s a wingback and not a fullback, unfortunately for him we play 4 ar the back which shows his defensive weaknesses up
Key has the same problem, not a fullback but his awareness and positioning is a lot worse than Tymons and is a clear target for opposing teams although Ronald in front of him could help him a bit more
The number of crosses we concede both sides is a big problem but hopefully one that Matos can rectify
