It’s really underhand, much more so than the on the pitch incidents you mention. None of it is right though and I’d like to see more stringent rules applied on the pitch to cut out certain aspects that have crept into the game. | |

They waived the future 15 point penalty to Sheffield Wednesday but got a backlash from a lot of league clubs, apparently docking them 18 points and effectively relegating them wasn't enough they wanted them hammered again next season...
Most fans would say that they have suffered enough but I guess chairmen are more hard nosed...
If they let Soton off lightly they may get another broadside being seen to be weak... I dunno...we'll see | |

Thinking about this, I would guess that an important factor in the Panel's decision will be the risk of litigation.
If they chuck Soton out of the final I can see two dangers (there are probably others),
1. Soton will certainly go to CAS and it will not be heard before the final, so if the EFL lose that will be a very expensive case to lose. The problem is that Soton only have find one mistake in how it was handled, one error, and they can win on a technicality. And win several millions I suspect.
2. Millwall will of course argue that if Middlesborough get a Bye, so should they. Well they've got no obvious case, none. But again, they only have to find one obscure clause in the rules that no one has thought about (I have no idea what that might be) and again they might win a lot of money.
So my guess is the Panel will play safe and go for a swingeing fine and/or a hefty points deduction. Easy to justify, "We shouldn't overrule events on the pitch". I rather agree, retrospectively changing the result of matches is a very slippery slope. OTOH, Soton are connected, so it might be "It clearly didn't affect the game" and a slap on the wrist.
What amazes me is how clumsy Soton were. Anyone connected with surveillance could have got them full footage with no risk whatsoever. They could even have watched it remotely and controlled the camera. | | | |

That would explain why it's taking time to do their investigation if they can't just straight wash their hands of him.
The trouble is: everyone will be lying, and anyone who was involved won't be admitting it. So getting a solid truthful account of events will be difficult. These investigations in a company when the pointy fingers are flying are very hard to get right.
