Or is it something us old farts used to call Summer ⛱️🌞. Yes be sensible. Hydrate, sun cream, hats etc and don t be a dick in the sea. Enjoy!

I believe if I remember rightly we had snow in April 76. Great summer. I seem to remember most summers were.

| The Weather on 13:13 - Jun 23 with 2444 views | ReslovenSwan1 | What is the health and safety logic of closing schools ?. They have been teaching in these temperatures in Europe for 100 years. I have a friend who is a teacher in Antalya. I did risk assessment for engineering projects in the past. I would think sending school children home would be daft more dangerous than going to school. Drowning in the sea and rivers for example. Is this an excuse for a day off or just absolving teachers of responsibility . What mitigations were school taking. Fans water breaks sending vulnerable student home etc.? [Post edited 23 Jun 14:10]

| The Weather on 13:53 - Jun 23 with 2403 views | Demitrius | Southern European schools will have air con installed in buildings designed to be cool in hot weather - as a Northern European mild climate ours don't and most don't even own a standalone fan. Lack of foresight/investment/penny pinching...they need to address this as this sort of weather is every year now I remember at school we had those portacabins and no blinds or curtains - like a fridge in winter and a greenhouse in summer and lots of kids me included with your blazer over yr head in lessons trying to keep the red hot sun off you. We just got on with it but it wasn't very comfortable and sweaty. not ideal for learning... | |

The schools in Antalya at 40c + do not have AC .. Same in Greece and Balkans probably. It is a well known fact that Children are the most unsafe during the Summer holidays. Migration s van be made with drink breaks. There is no H&S case for closing schools. UK homes do not have AC .

| The Weather on 16:11 - Jun 23 with 2256 views | Gwyn737 | I just checked and at time of writiing 312 schools are closed or partially closed tomorrow in England and Wales so 99% are fully open. Government advice is not to close so I expect in most instances these school have specific needs. DfE advice is as follows: Protection – Communicate with parents to ensure that children are provided with sunscreen with a high protection factor and a hat. Shade – Encourage children and staff to stay in the shade as much as possible. Additional shade may need to be considered and provided for outdoor activities. Hydration – Ensure that there is an adequate supply of fresh drinking water. Encourage and remind pupils and staff to drink more water than usual in hot weather, taking into account the need for additional bathroom breaks. Relaxing uniform rules – Consider allowing the removal of jumpers and blazers and encouraging pupils and staff to wear light and/or light‑coloured clothing where possible. Timetabling – Avoid vigorous physical activity and adapt lessons in response to hot weather. Managing building temperatures – Consider opening windows as early as possible, taking into account site security. Use blinds or shading where available and built‑in or portable cooling systems where appropriate. Keep the use of electrical equipment to a minimum where possible, as this can generate additional heat. Depsite what many think, Head's really don't like closing schools as it much more of a pain in the bum than keeping them open | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Lunchtime finish or full closure? I can see a few more going for afternoon closures which I can understand if they have specific issues. Otherwise it should be crack in IMO. I don’t think you can compare buildings in Spain to here, mind.

76 wasn’t just about the temperature, it was also about how long it lasted with clear blue skies daily. Truly unforgettable.

Hopefully we are briefing children on the dangers of cold water shock and the issues with unsupervised swimming?
